There are some familiar names on that list. Has David Backes really lost that much of a step to be waived by Anaheim?

It’s only to get under the cap before putting Kesler on LTIR.  They’ll recall him after.

I thought the same, but looked up his state on NHL.com. Really fallen off the past 3 years. And he is 36. End of a career.

The only interesting name on waivers -- besides Forsling, Megna, and Backes -- is Jacob MacDonald. He's a little older (27) but he's had back to back to back 55, 43, and 42 point seasons as a defenseman in the AHL. And that 42 point season was cut off at only 56 games last year. Not sure the Canucks make the claim but wouldn't be shocked if someone takes a flier on MacDonald for there taxi squad (unless Taxi Squad members must pass through waivers?!?). He's definitely an intriguing offensive defenseman.

I believe the same rules apply to putting players on the taxi squad as it is to send them to the minors, so yes he would have to pass through waivers to get there.

He's probably a Clendening or Pouliot type who can put up the numbers in the AHL, but for whatever reason it just doesn't translate in the NHL. Perhaps they are missing attributes to get the ice time needed to be effective as they would in the AHL.

I thought that too about him in that he could be a Clendening or Pouliot type -- but he's only played 2 NHL games (and has 1 goal in those two games)... so he hasn't really had the chance to prove or disprove him being in that category or not.

And good to know about the taxi squad, thanks!
