[Report] Corey Crawford announces retirement

He lost his game due to his concussion issues. Hope he has good health post-hockey. Devil's will be fine without him. Blackwood is their guy anyway and now this serves as an opportunity for a depth goalie in their org to take the backup role, at least to start the season.

Four days away from the season starting, all the good goalies signed, no-one within the organization to share the load - this actually puts the Devils in a terrible position.

I'd understand this more if he was fine on light workouts. But when he did more intense work his symptoms came back. That's the screwed up thing about concussions. It can change day to day. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that something changed recently. However, if he was not fit prior to signing then it is kind of a bad thing to do to the Devils this late in the game.

Looks like it's time to bring Brodeur out of retirement.

Crawford wasn't even playing well as of late. Devil's won't be any worse off than if he had decided to play this season. They don't have a great roster to say the least. Should get another top 10 pick this coming draft.

He was one of the best goalies in the league when considering environment last season per Sportloqiq tracking technology.  Chicago was one of the worse defensive teams.

I agree with you

kind of funny

Crawford seem like a combination of Ferland, (injured) and ericksson (unmotivated)

he does the right thing and retires, ( what everyone wished Loui would do) and people think he is doing  wrong by the Devils

Crawford was not going to be a difference maker for the devils but you won't find that on your Sportlogiq site. Not a playoff team with our without him.

Benning talked of the importance of having a reliable goalie when developing players as the reason why he signed Miller and had no interest in trading him.  Would guess that NJD were thinking the same way.

NJD is unlikely to make the playoffs but it was likely for development purposes and to ease off some pressure from Blackwood.  He was going to help keep the score respectable.   They are a developing team and it can affect confidence and moral if the team is constantly blown out.  Also with poor goaltending it can affect how the team plays.
