He’s not. He received money from his father and has exploited the situation ever since. The fact that you think he’s shrewd is very telling.

Warren Buffett is a shrewd businessman. Bill Gates is a shrewd businessman. Trump is a trust fund baby.

The most tired staple on the internet.

At least try to bring something slightly intelligent to the discussion. If possible, which I’m thinking may not be based on the post I’m responding to. At least try.

Or what? Will you scold me? Come to my mom’s basement and teach me a lesson? I won’t be there though. Sorry.

If you had any sense in your head, you’d realize that I’m not attacking the poster’s monetary situation whatsoever, more so their tendency in this thread to focus on race over upbringing. But then again, you’d have to have sense.

How would your “time on the CDC” give you any insight into a person’s actual life? How many people here share their 401Ks, outside of one poster unsuccessfully? Most post here anonymously so your powers of deduction are probably wasted here. Maybe take that blazingly powerful insight and help CSIS stop money laundering.

The fact that you're comparing Trump to other icons or tycoons is telling...

He is a self made billionaire who was given money.. so what? That is usually one way people become wealthy through loans and trust funds..

Bill Gates and Warren Buffett were also helped along the way.

I based the assumption of not a lot of "millionaires" on certain activity in the threads like bitcoin, stock market thread, BC emergency response benefit etc.. and guess that there might be issues with money for some people. I didn't not mean to paint this entire forum as poor or frugal.

Buffet sold chewing gum, Coca-Cola door to door. He had a paper route. He worked at his grandfather’s store and was paid the same wage as anybody else who worked there. He did it himself. Certainly his father was a congressman, but even then, his father made him go to college rather than going into business right after graduating from high school. The two aren’t even remotely close.

At least research first. It’s a handy method of acquiring information rather that just BSing your way through the argument.

Did you also take into account that both individuals were born in different time periods? and had different upbringings..

Trumps parents sold homes to middle class families while buffets parents as you mentioned had political connections.

Either way there many pathways to become wealthy and not one way is the correct way.

Can we say that Trump is more successful then both of us combined lol unless you're a closet billionaire...

So you wouldn't want to be President of the United States? or a Billionaire? Your call..

I by no means am a Trump supporter but I can never understand the hate..

Are people just that jealous?

I am sure none of this matters to him, but for the average hater are you that bloody miserable?

He is the President of the USA and a Billionaire how else does one expect him to behave?

He is not going to be your nanny..

Hate on Trump all you want but he is a shrewd business man and that is what they do..

For all we know you could still be living in your parents basement lol?

Don't attack someones opinion just because they aren't super wealthy..

From my time on CDC I doubt there are many millionaires on this site.

Dude if he was shrewd. He wouldn't be marrying trophy wives. Countless stupid ventures. He'd have a nice home. Couple of nice cars. And plowing his earnings back into real estate. But his ego gets in the way. He's a spoiled brat, that owes everything to his Dad. He even had a casino go bust in Atlantic City. How is that even possible?

In fact if he toned his ego down a notch. Quit worrying about Twitter and got out of politics all together. Keep a low profile and make tons of money on real estate.

But his ego is out of control.

Better yet. Since he has about 70 million followers. Start a church. He'll never go broke as long has he has stupid people to fleece.

(Oh and churches don't pay taxes...total win/win for him.)

Trumps a billionaire? His "empire" is a house of cards. He will be bankrupt again within a year. Book it.

How many parents pay you through college, and give you millions to start, in addition to other gift's and allowances he was granted.

When you have no debt, and banks will loan you whatever you need because Daddy is the fall back. That's not self made.

Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.

Your nanny should knock some sense into your pea-brain!

Back to the topic-Kane. Hope he gets some people around him to support him through this and teach him the value of $ and what interest is, savings account, etc. I recall Theo Fleury had nothing to show for his NHL days. At least Kane has some time left.

If I could be president Ironman with a billion dollars, sure. But let's be real here, being the POTUS is a $&!#e job with $&!#e hours, $&!#e autonomy and $&!#e coworkers but a good pension. I suppose I'd also know the truth about aliens, which would be cool.

But would I want to be president trump right now? An untrustworthy, self serving, narcissistic billionaire in legal trouble who has failed 330 million of his countrymen and women amidst a global pandemic, while also having the most time to plan, in his last year of a disastrous single term tenure that will likely go down as the worst presidential administration in history and I am only liked by uneducated hill billies? Nah I'm good.

One of the greatest NHL defenseman of all time - Doug Harvey - lived in a rail car at the end of his life (granted the rail car used be used by the PM John Diefenbacker [sp?].  To be sure, times were different then (where the players worked for peanuts and the owners had all the control).  Read the book "Net Worth" for more information.

Great book; every fan should read it.  The movie is also worthwhile but really only covers a small portion.  Regarding Evander, he isn't the first player to get into financial trouble and he won't be the last.  If the NHLPA were smart, they'd be negotiating for half of the salaries to be deferred into an annuity of some source.  These kids aren't financial gurus and it's unreasonable to expect them to always make good decisions.

Didn’t Allen Iverson had a net worth of over 200 million at one point in his career before filing for bankruptcy

Correct. However, where Iverson differs is his absolutely shrewd sneaker deal with Reebok he still has, which saved him from financial ruin.

Even though retired, Iverson will take home $800k per year for the remainder of his life, from Reebok. In addition, his Reebok deal also had them setup a trust for him, in which he will get $32M once he turns 55 years old.

So Iverson is all good.
