Davathor
Noticed there wasn't a topic for this, and I'm curious how the rest of Canucks nation feel about being underestimated... Again. Here's the parts involving the Canucks It’s January and a new NHL season is upon us. This year’s will be limited to 56 regular season games, and bring divisional realignment as the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to present challenges for all sports leagues. So, we’ve assembled a panel of 21 Sportsnet NHL experts to give you their predictions North Division regular season winner Chris Johnston: CalgaryJeff Marek: TorontoCaroline Cameron: TorontoDavid Amber: TorontoMark Spector: MontrealLuke Fox: TorontoIain MacIntyre: TorontoEric Engels: TorontoEric Francis: CalgaryKen Wiebe: CalgaryWayne Scanlan: CalgaryChristine Simpson: TorontoKyle Bukauskas: TorontoDan Murphy: TorontoGene Principe: EdmontonShawn McKenzie: TorontoSean Reynolds: EdmontonGord Stellick: TorontoRyan Dixon: CalgaryRory Boylen: Calgary Stanley Cup semifinalists Elliotte Friedman: Colorado, Tampa Bay, Toronto, WashingtonChris Johnston: Toronto, Pittsburgh, Colorado, Tampa BayJeff Marek: Colorado, Toronto, Carolina, PhiladelphiaCaroline Cameron: Toronto, Colorado, Tampa, NY IslandersDavid Amber: Vegas, Vancouver, Tampa Bay, WashingtonMark Spector: Colorado, Winnipeg, Islanders, CarolinaLuke Fox: Toronto, Colorado, Tampa Bay, WashingtonIain MacIntyre: Carolina, NY Islanders, Vegas, TorontoEric Engels: Montreal, Washington, Carolina, ColoradoEric Francis: Toronto, Boston, Colorado, DallasKen Wiebe: Calgary, NY Rangers, Vegas, Tampa BayWayne Scanlan: Colorado, Tampa Bay, Calgary, PhiladelphiaChristine Simpson: Toronto, NY Islanders, Colorado, Tampa BayKyle Bukauskas: Montreal, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Tampa BayDan Murphy: Tampa, Vegas, Calgary, WashingtonGene Principe: Edmonton, Washington, Colorado, DallasShawn McKenzie: Vegas, Tampa Bay, Toronto, PhiladelphiaSean Reynolds: Colorado, Toronto, Philadelphia, Tampa BayGord Stellick: Toronto, Carolina, Colorado, PhiladelphiaRyan Dixon: Tampa Bay, Toronto, Colorado, WashingtonRory Boylen: Montreal, Vegas, Dallas, Washington As you can see, Sportsnet's lack of faith is disturbing. Only other places we're mentioned is MacIntyre voting Van most likely to exceed expectations, and some Engel clown voting us most likely to disappoint. Special mention to Gene Principe for voting every trophy and title to either the Oilers or McDavid. Can't wait to see the boys prove them wrong.... Phil_314
This isn't news. "Center of the Hockey Universe" and "Best Player in the League" are of course going to get the attention of the league and media, ahead of "plucky underdogs with underrated, developing star center and small but mighty #1 D-man, plus goalie living rent free in contender's heads". They probably also look at Vancouver the same way we did, before Hamonic signed, in that the D is weaker, while "Leafs Big 4, gets needed support" and "McDavid and Draisaitl.. enough said".
-AJ-
It's not surprising. I do think the North Division will be incredibly close and almost any of the teams could end up winning the division, but I personally have Calgary winning it. Where I think the Canucks have a better chance is if we make the playoffs, then going on a bit of a run. Several of our guys, including our best players, have shown to be big game players, especially Hughes, Horvat, Demko, and Petey. Not surprising to see Amber give us an edge there--he's always favoured the Canucks, especially since we've come out of our rebuild.
Popular Post Trebreh
I don't see what people see in Calgary. Sure they got Marky, but i don't think he'll be able replicate his career year last season with a new goalie coach. Not to mention his b2b knee injuries and being on the wrong side of 30. Tanev is declining, Leivo is returning from a knee injury. they signed a bunch of other castoffs and all of a sudden they are improved? they havn't upraded their top 6. All of their offence runs through little Johnny. 1

I think MacIntyre and Murph didn't want to be tied up in the same class as Gene (who seems like a really nice guy but if there is a homer bigger than John Garrett, he might be it). Meh, I don't give a $hit. They are always wrong and will be wrong again.
Bell
Seems like the Canucks and Senators aren't getting any respect. Go Canucks and start tonight by kicking the stinky oil's butt. Edited January 14, 2021 by Bell
Silky mitts
Calgary sucks lol. So overrated, top end talent is simply lacking. 1

I think they might have the weakest goalie tandem in the division if not the league lol

I think they might have the weakest goalie tandem in the division if not the league lol I really don't know. They look super thin on D and goaltending.. And unless they're playing some of their 3 top 6 guys as PK, I just can't see how they won't get steamrolled in the games McDavid doesn't win by himself I'm confident enough I've got 20$ on ever canuck/oilers game and 100 on the season series. Not Vegas money but I'll make it worth it with the chirping towards my Oilers fan buddy 1

Master Mind
Personally, I'd rather people not be predicting the Canucks to win the division. Let the other teams have all the pressure. 1
iceman64
As I remember they all had us written off for years, won't make the playoffs, and same b.s. with TJ Miller was a bad trade and we got fleeced etc.. honestly, who cares what they say? meh.. same ole b.s. over and over like a broken record. Well you still have to be wary of that, NJ was like that when they won the cup, they didn't have a great team but really good, they simply out worked everyone and won it, it was as simple as that.. hard hard and work boots on, foot to the pedal, was surprising but they did it. King Heffy
Not sure how anyone is expecting Toronto to win multiple playoff series with their collective allergy to team defense. Every year, their defense gets exposed as AHL trash when it matters most. Soilers also have the same issue and Cahlgary still has a total of zero men in their top six. Azzy
It's so strange seeing so many people tipping Calgary. All they did was keep their crumbling core intact and add a better goalie
Nucker 67
same old, year after year, the media count out the Canucks and yet for pretty much the past 15 years we've been Canada's best team. They have a complex in TOR. Similar to Trump. They're unable to accept how crappy they are.
rekker
No surprise. Leafs could field a Zamboni driver in net all season and still be favoured by media. And for some reason the Flames have always been the media darling as well.
Dixon Ward
I would much rather that, especially as a young team with young leaders, less is expected. Keep the underestimations coming!
