But did he win the cup that year?!?!?! (obvious sarcasm)

Nobody is debating that he could carry a team. We are just saying it's silly that these players are willing their teams to cup victories with nobody around them.

I would never say a single player should be able to win a cup.  I'm just arguing the point that McDavid is not in the same tier as Gretzky or Lemieux.

im not arguing gretzky is an all time great, im just saying connor would do just as good if you put him on those teams

But you are transporting a player that has all the luxuries of modern training  nutrition and equipment to 30 years ago.

give  66 all of today’s advantages and do you really think he would have failed against the bubble team Blackhawks at his peak? Especially with the top scorer in the league on his team? ( draisaitl)

Again let's just start with 2019-20... Pick your poison.  Goals or assist or points.  Which one was McDavid the 'best' at last year?

I'll pick points ... Gretzky was the best for 10 years in his career.  Lemieux with 6.  Ok your turn...

McDavid had an exceptional playoff round against Chicago though. At the end of the day he can't make his defense and goaltending play better.

The only guy that *could* have given 66 a run imo was Lindros (another guy I absolutely loathed) based on size, skill and brains... but he couldn't skate with his head up playing in an exceptionally filthy era.

You play Lindros "now" and... there's nobody that could contain that thing. And I say that with the maximum amount of hate.

Much like Bo got into St Louis heads in the playoffs, McMuffin got into our heads tonight. When he started whizzing around, systems broke down, assignments got lost, and frustration started. In the past, we used team speed, discipline, and effort to contain him, and tonight, we took our foot off the gas, and let him dictate.

I refuse to pin this on Jake, or Demko. Several players were a step behind, sloppy passes, not urgent, etc... I do think the team was felling pretty good about last night, and tonight’s effort showed it.

The good thing about a game like this happening this early in the season is there’s time to analyze, learn, adapt, and be ready for the next game.

I did like the fight in Petey, Brock, and Hughes, they never gave up. And Hughes with a bloody bottom lip....

Go Canucks!!

thats funny, because players are bigger stronger and faster todayy

And yet the game is not nearly as physical.  McLoser's tantrums wouldn't fly back then; an enforcer would ensure he started treating the sport with respect and stopped his diving before he got something to actually cry about.

I agree. It’s a shame he got all those head Injuries. Who knows what he could have achieved.  An absolute beast.

Team is stacked because Gretzky, the greatest of all time, helped develop those players to a higher level.   Just like he made Chris Kontos a playoff all star and Bernie Nichols a 150 point player in Los Angeles.

If Gretzky was on la for 10 of his prime years who knows how many cups and legends would have been made there.
