canuck2288
I don’t buy the “we should have signed Toffoli” line he was not here long and frankly he has not done much for Montreal this season our issue is our lack of structure and systems

I don’t understand that, does he think it is a sign of weakness or something? I get that felling he is too cocky, dies not want to look like we are in panic mode but we are in panic mode maybe he thinks they carry over? Would have been nice to keep him but obviously wasn't happening with the contracts shackling the team.
-Vintage Canuck-
If it wasn't for COVID, I would have been interested in seeing an After Hours segment with Markstrom and Tanev. 1
Coconuts
Hopefully this game serves as a wake up call, they haven't been good these last two games for the most part Special teams in particular are hurting us
MikeyD
4 minutes ago, Smashian Kassian said: Yeah thats true. I think he's just taken the 2nd line matchup role ala Kesler, and he's now working on improving within that responsibility. His production continues to increase, and he came through huge in the playoffs, so I don't view him as any kind of problem in the bigger picture just yet. No he's definitely not a problem. I just feel he could be much more impactful offensively. I really dislike that he's settled into the role of a shut down center when he has the potential of being so much more dynamic. It's like Jake Virtanen to me though, I've just accepted that these two players who can become great players just settle into their roles and it is what it is. Mustard Tiger
We have a crazy amount of wasted cap space either off the roster currently, or in over paid players... and it's really showing. Mix that with some of the worst assistant coaches, Who resort to the most predicable static passive play schemes possible... We get to witness the outcome. On the bright side its been 3 out of 56 games, We will see where we are at once miller is back and about 10/15 games into the season. Confidence if huge in hockey, Hopefully someone can give us a spark on monday and get this ball rolling in the right direction.

It’s literally something that doesn’t make sense. Would we have like to have traded a contract to keep him. I’m sure. But JB is obviously looking at a bigger picture then this year. I don’t think anyone is happy with Jakes game but the whole team isn’t gelling. It will come around though. Our best players haven’t been our best players either outside game 1 but that will change too. Yeah for sure. Jakes making 2.5 mil and coming off a career highs across the board. He’s super streaky. The TEAM is streaky. Could very well stay on that upswing. Those guys have been whinging about the cap situation for 5 years and this is the first (and likely only) year it’s really going to cost us a strong player. It’s their one chance to do a little victory lap for the lifetime’s worth of complaining so they’re going to get their moneys worth. Like... they’re not technically wrong... but for the actual impact I think they’ve made their point and then some. Time to move on. (They won’t.) canuck2288
We better pray Winnipeg trades Laine to an American team right now every team in Canada other than Ottawa can beat us and then again Ottawa knocked off Toronto !!!

Yup. They've been the 2nd best team in both games. But good teams find ways to get by, and if we had special teams going we might've done that. Aside from the first period, the Flames didn't dominate us tonight 5 on 5 at all. CGY didn't do much more than we did in the final 40. We had the puck alot - its just we couldn't turn that into good chances & our special teams failed again.

Passes are not on the tape. Players are stretching or moving out of position to make it happen. Trying to do too much in cases. The only structure problems I see right now is the PK. Hopefully it gets sorted out

It’s a long ways away but if we have our full complement of picks this year and have some bigger bottom 6 salaries coming off the books I can see the temptation to tie a protected 2022 first to float Loui out of town as well to go shopping for a middle 6 upgrade. Just a random prediction. Just ride it out with Loui and use the cap to sign a key youngster. It's a wash, we will not make any improvements until we can shed our bottom 6 overpriced contracts and bring in some more muscle. I don't get the Sutter, Rousel and Ferland signings. None of them are imposing. Ferland was once but that was before concussion issues, yet he was our tough guy...odd.
