Wouldn't mind giving Spezza a shot until Milsy returns and put him back on waivers..

There’s a 7 day quarantine.  Miller should be back before then.

So he would rather play for Toronto's AHL team/taxi squad than be on another NHL roster? Even another one in Canada?

According to his agent, he’s happy to serve a depth role for the organization — helping mentor younger players while playing fourth-line minutes. It’s also where he grew up, so it’s essentially a home for him.

I’m guessing it’s in the media because it’s forces other GMs to not pull a dick move since it’s in the public’s eyes.

Doesn't a  private phone call do the same thing?

Some of those "old boys" are not going to like being pushed in public. I'd say Lou Lamoriello doesn't care what the fans think, and to a large degree what his players think either; so why risk it.?

It's a lame attempt however to make themselves an exception to the waiver rules everyone (else) is subject to.  But, but we're the Leafs and Jason is special and wants to stay close to home.

The dick move was waiving him in the first place - knowing this.  The Leafs are who has put him in this position.

If anything, I'd look at it as more incentive to claim him.  Make him retire if he believes this 'threat' ("I will retire") will enable him to circumvent the process.

Take one more option away from them.  Every other team in the North benefits.

Suck it Leafs.

I would say it’s just a tactic by the agent that translates to: “please don’t claim my player”. I think some GMs don’t care what the fans think, like you said, but I think the agent was doing the best he could for his client to stay in his hometown.
