Ok you just confirmed your hockey knowledge

yet another coach warrior that cant skate judging hockey talent

let you educate you , hogs has played arguably flawlessly thus season

Not sure that was even English but appreciate the education.

Nils Hoglander is only a top 6 forward this season  on a team with no playoff expectations.

Sure looks like the Canucks tho.

But please continue explaining how good our 4 defenceman are, I’d love to learn more.

Listening to Sat last night on 650...

He made it seem like Benning went to ownership with a plan (including buyout, walking away from RFA's) to try to hold onto Marky/Toff/exc but got nixed in these Covid times.

Interesting. I totally believe he had a plan that got nixed. The Canucks cut more owed salary than almost every other NHL organization and barely added any salary (besides taking on Holtby and Schmidt) despite being up against the cap. I wish I could find the article talking about this but you can't slash the amount of salary the Canucks did and expect to be as good as the previous season.

From what I've heard, the Aquilini Investment Group has been getting hit hard by Covid and are bleeding cash. They own a lot of real estate and with the Provincial government freezing evictions at the same time people can't pay rent it means the Aquilini's are locked into a lot situations where they can't recover. They also have a huge stake in the Parq Casino & Hotel, and besides being a Casino in the wrong part of town, casinos themselves have been shut down since March of last year with no signs of reopening. They have stakes in other hotels (which, as an industry have been hit hard by Covid), high end restaurants (like Elisa, Blue Water Cafe, and Thierry), office space holdings (as companies run remotely, companies aren't interested, at this moment, in locking in on leases of spaces they don't look to be using for the foreseeable future, leaving many office spaces vacant), construction has been slowed down by Covid leaving many residential projects delayed by months, if not a year or two, and as the owners of Rogers Arena they haven't been able to hold a concert or have the public in the arena since March 2020. The only sectors of the Aquilini Investment Group that appear to be doing okay during Covid times are the Energy + Subsidiaries sector and the Farming sector. You can read about all there business ventures here -- https://aquilini.com/

It's clearly not a pretty financial picture for the Aquilini's.

My bet is that Benning wanted to buyout Baertschi and maybe Sutter to keep Tanev and Markstrom. I also think Benning got pressured into pursuing OEL which led to the departures of Tanev & Stecher, specifically. I still think in the long term the Canucks made the right call walking away from Markstrom but it's a tough short term position to be in all things considered.

That said, the season's still young and I hope the young players remember how bad this loss stings.

You can’t force him to not retire. He also had a NTC. So no that one is still on Gillis.

you tell him to stay in Florida come to Vancouver for a day for a physical , fail it and have the canucks put him on LTIR. He smart gm would have done that

We’re playing low level jr. B hockey right now. Imagine buying season tickets to that.

NF  Way!  This team regressed 5 years after letting go of out top goalie, most dependable D-Man (when he's not injured), and letting a once in a decade "catch" ( Tofolli) walk out while keeping guys like "Deadwood' Sutter and Erikson to clog everything up instead of buying them out.  Now look at this team!   A total screw-up by Management and worthy of some heads rolling.!

Late 80's, people used to wear bags on their heads at games. Was nuts.

We have 2 main D out, and now Chatfield, is the one of our youth who seems to be the most defensively sound.

Really weird, we all thought our D was so solid going into the season, but right now, we have allowed more goals against than any other team in the league.

I think we need a few days of practice and systems play, but the frustrating part is, we're not going to get that until sometime in late March due to schedule.

Not much we can do about it!

four of our starting 6 D tonight average 23 years of age. All I am trying to say is let them mellow and gel together as a team. It takes more than a few nights of internet gaming from a single hotel room to build the comradery of a cohesive fighting unit.

ya cuz drafting good guy high hockey I.Q.'s is working out for us. maybe we need some d$%kheads in our lineup

Always need d$%kneads in the lineup.

But the 1sts Benning has drafted, are legit. Something else is going on.

This team isn't as bad as it has looked to start the season.

Hughes will be better.

EP will be better.

The goalies will... Might be better.

That said.  This team has been trash on defense for years.  It's just continuing to do what it's always done, except Markstrom isn't dragging them to victories.

Benning has had years to build a winner and this is what we got.  At the very best, an average team.  He's had his shot.  Time to bring in someone that can actually navigate the cap and build depth around EP & QH.

Several Nucks fans figured we'd take a step back this season before taking another two forward, but this is pretty ugly

I'm not sold on Marky being as big a loss as some make him out to be, if he's in net tonight we likely see a similar result

Holtby's looked fine when he can actually see the puck

Demko's been ventilated tonight, but when you keep giving up the chances we have and playing the way we have in front of him, well..

Losing Tanev hurt, but Schmidt was supposed to ease some of that burden, but Schmidt's still just one guy

I blame our coaching staff for the most part, though injuries have contributed as well

Coaching is one of the problems but personnel is the bigger problem.

The thing is Schmidt isn't able to handle the tough minutes Tanev used to handle alongside Edler.

When we need to defend a lead or behind by one, the coaches had Edler-Tanev out. Now, we've got... Hughes-Myers? Schmidt-Rafferty?

We are going to have to score our way out of the trouble this season.

I'd rather the coaches adopt run-n-gun this season and see how it goes. If we f*ck up and finish dead last, so be it. We all knew this seasons was going to be crazy.

Get a top 10 pick, bring Podkolzin and Tryamkin from RUssia, sign EP and QH to reasonable bridge deals, find a way to free up some cap and build up defence depth and go at it next season.
