I despise Calgary as much as the next guy but they've got a really good team. They pushed Dallas last year just as hard as Colorado did. Tanev is an upgrade on Hamonic while Markstrom addressed their biggest hole. While I believe those contracts will hurt Calgary in the long term, there's no denying that Calgary is a dangerous team in 2021. You still aren't winning anything when all your top six forwards play scared, especially when so-called "stars" like Monahan and Gaudreau disappear when it counts and need tourist visas to enter their defensive zone, and Tkachuk throws dirty hits but turtles like a little b**** when it's time to pay the piper. That's not a recipe for playoff success. They overachieved last year; they'll get exposed as a joke of a franchise soon enough. With the presence of Lindholm and the emergence of Tkachuk, Monahan and Gaudreau won't be expected to carry the team on their backs like they were expected to a few years back. Tkachuk does turtle but he also knows how to throw down. I despise the Flames as much as you do but these guys will be solid for at least another two seasons. We can't ignore the short term impact that both Markstrom and Tanev will have there. Giordano, Andersson, Hanafin, and Tanev is a solid solid d-core whether we like them or not. Our future is much brighter than Calgary's however. Edited January 24, 2021 by DarkIndianRises
The Colt 45s
We have many rookies in the line up. Are we surprised at the results right now?
kanucks25
I think a lot of people underestimated what Tanev meant to this team, even if he missed a quarter of the season every year. Not easy to find a guy that's reliable every shift, especially against the other team's best players. All our D-men are handling the puck like it's a live grenade right now and even Hughes has been extremely erratic in his own zone.

Well, yeah Thing is, for a player like Hughes you're going to have to live with some gaffs in the offensive half of the ice just because of the type of player he is. He has the green light to try to make plays and sometimes they are going to backfire. I'm not necessarily worried because of his young age and lack of experience, but what's more concerning is how often he gets lost and outmuscled in the D-zone. He may not ever be a defensive wizard but what we've seen so far isn't good enough. All that said, I have faith in him to turn it around. Things just look worse now because the D group (well the entire team, actually) looks out of sorts.
AV.
Well, not directly. He has, however, turned his own franchise into a mediocre team bunch of sucks. Quite a superpower if you ask me.
Dazzle
Am I the only one that thinks that all the teams are generally pretty competitive? This is such a small sample in the grand scheme of things. Things will level out usually. Edited January 24, 2021 by Dazzle

Flames are my #1 least favourite team, they have the worst fans. Those fans disprected the Sedins all their career for being "soft" and yet their top line is made up of 2 of the softest player in the league in Gaudreau and Monahan, when face with pressure in the playoffs, they just fold. Hope nothing but misery and chaos for that fanbase and organization.
Junkyard Dog
Flames just crapped the bed vs the Leafs twice and have already lost to the Jets once so I don't think they're quite there yet. And they are gonna play the Habs the next two. Edited January 27, 2021 by Junkyard Dog

Even Josh Leivo looks not too bad as a secondary player who can slot in where needed. Goaltending was a problem with all their previous playoff appearances, but with Markstrom signed for the longterm, you have to wonder if this team can take its next step. All thanks to Jim Bennings decisions. Before I read this post, I just want to say no. And also, I won’t be reading this post. But most importantly, has anyone noticed the facial hair on Gaudreau’s face? I just thought it would take another five years to get there... c’maan Cindy get with the program. Who knows apparently Tanev and Markstrom have strong leadership qualities. If it rubs off on Monahan and Gaudreau they might become better players as a result. And this could also be the reason why Pettersson is in a slump. The lack of leadership presence from those two.

King Heffy
Flamers being exposed as gutless cowards. Calling them AHLers would be a compliment to those losers and their cesspool of a city.
Junkyard Dog
Flames still finding themselves. Only two wins so far are against us. Lucky for them they have played the fewest games so far in this division. They play the Habs again. Marky will do better than Rittich did but will he get enough support?
