MikeBossy
Looks like we have a trade folks - just popped up on my Sportsnet feed (no link yet) - Laine and Roslovic for Dubois https://floridahockeynow.com/columbus-trades-pierre-luc-dubois-to-winnipeg-for-patrik-laine/ The Pierre-Luc Dubois saga which so quickly escalated in Columbus came to a quick solution as the Blue Jackets made a trade with Winnipeg, sending their top center to the Jets for All-Star forward Patrik Laine. The swap of disgruntled 22-year-old forwards — Laine’s agents reportedly told management during the offseason the team should think about trading him — may not be the landing point either player wanted but gives their new teams some fresh talent. The Blue Jackets also got center Jack Roslovic back in the deal as the Columbus native would not sign a contract with the Jets this season and had been working out with the Jackets’ junior team. Columbus sent back Dubois and a third-round pick. Florida had interest in acquiring Dubois but once the bidding war opened between multiple teams, things got too rich for the Panthers’ blood. Sign up today for daily, in-depth coverage of the Florida Panthers from George Richards For Winnipeg, they acquire a first-line center who will likely take over the second line with Mark Scheifele up top. As would have been the case with the Panthers and Sasha Barkov, adding a second high-end center gives Winnipeg a very powerful 1-2 punch up the middle. Laine, who incidentally is one of Barkov’s closest friends, gives the Blue Jackets some serious scoring pop and a nice right-side pairing with either Cam Atkinson, Oliver Bjorkstrand or Boone Jenner. In his four NHL seasons, Laine has scored at least 30 goals in three of them; he was at 28 last year when the NHL cut short his season. The Panthers visit Columbus on Tuesday although it is not known whether Laine would be in the lineup due either because of COVID-19 quarantine or U.S. visa issues. Steven Stamkos
How long is Laine going to have to quarantine for? Between Aho’s Hurricanes being postponed, to Pettersson playing like trash and Laine not playing / being hurt / now this trade. My fantasy team is currently in shambles.

Baer.
This is such a bizarre move by the jets, somebody please rationalize this because it seems like a completely backwards move for the jets.
Popular Post Sean Monahan
So PLD ends up in a smaller market, crappier city playing behind a centre who’s much better than him and will likely remain much better than him for several years.
Popular Post -SN-
So Laine goes from Canada Ohio to USA Winnipeg and Dubois goes from USA Winnipeg to Canada Ohio. Feeling like CBJ wins here. They were pressured to make the trade and arguably ended up with a better player. 1
204CanucksFan
Jets lost this trade, hands down. And I suspect Dubois will become disgruntled again once he realizes that he's not going to be replacing Scheifele on the top line and even if he replaces Stastny on the 2nd line the Jets won't be the same offensive force with Laine gone
-SN-
Looks like maybe a 3rd going back to the Jets but they also retained salary lol.
Coconuts
I could see Dubois doing well with Winnipeg, not sure Laine will like it in Columbus though. Fully expecting him to bolt as soon as he can via ufa. This gives Winnipeg someone to slot into 2c, Stastny ain't exactly young anymore.

Popular Post Fanuck
How much longer is ownership going to allow Torts abrasive attitude to chase out top players from the organization? He's a fossil from another era and seemingly can't relate to today's stars. Does anyone think Laine is going to change his attitude in CBJ with Torts riding his backside? Jets win this trade. Duby wanted to get away from Torts, not from CBJ. Centermen like him are few and far between. 2

Dubois will be more than a 50pt guy and is far more valuable than a 1 dimensional seemingly entitled goal scorer. No brainer move for the Jets, solid 1/2 C punch for a long time now 1 7
Coconuts
Seems like a bit of a weird move, Laine is the more valuable player imo. But I suppose Winnipeg wanted to wash their hands of him and acquire a young c. It's tough to find a winger like Laine via ufa, but wingers are still easier to find. There's also the question of whether Laine will thrive or score the same way in Columbus. Edited January 23, 2021 by Coconuts
