NYR doesn't even want him on the taxi squad. He's just told to stay home. It would cost us 4 million in cap for next season and then a million after to buy out LE. I believe buying out DeAngelo would cost under a million for next season and then under a million for the next. That's an extra 3 million+ saved for next season with EP/QH extensions and possibly allowing us to not fall into another Toffoli situation as Benning said where we ran out of time to clear out cap.

And why would NYR even do this 1 for 1? We likely have to give them a 2nd or a prospect.

That's what I've been saying (look back a page). I've been responding to the poster suggesting that it doesn't even benefit us to do the trade 1 for 1.

Calgary fans don't want him. Anaheim fans don't want him. LA Kings fans don't want him. Also, Rangers fans have no regrets seeing this guy go. It really says a lot about how poorly this guy is viewed. Wake up people. Jesus @Elias Pettersson If picking up Deangelo gets rid of Loui's contract then I'm all for it. Deangelo can stay in New York, hang out on the taxi squad, hang out at Celebrities with Virtanen. It's a business transaction. My proposal was to find a way to get rid of Loui's contract so we can actually field a competitive team next year. With the $6 million off the books it will allow us to get a real 3C and a partner for Hughes.

Why would the Canucks do this trade? My point out of this is: if you think a trade is beneficial to the Canucks, what does the other team get out of it?

It doesn't matter what goes the other way if the league knows deangleo is a see you next tuesday. See kassian and a pick for prust Hoffman for picks Costs the team with the unwanted/troublesome player. That said, Rangers are over the cap already. That means Eriksson wont be going the other way. Deangelo 4.8 Virtanen 2.5..... canucks have to add another player with 2+ mil cap as they have 300k in space.

Going back to last year with Lias Anderson where the Rangers leadership group couldn’t handle him and his ego and then if the Ranger management and coaching staff actually thought DeAngelo would be a part of the leadership group with his past then they have major problems. On the Rangers they have Kreider and Jack Johnson and Panarin and Zibanejad as not only there leadership group but only players that almost 30 as the bulk of the team is between 23 and 26. Oh yeah definitely, The good situation that DeAngelo gives the Canucks is that they don't have to make a decision until the offseason and see if DeAngelo is willing to smarten up and play some hockey like he did last season He would only count a 1/3 of his salary cap hit after being bought out compared to a lot higher cap hit after buying Loui Ericksson out. Heck I would even do Virtanen at this point. This team needs the cap space in a major way to be able to shore up two glaring holes, a 3C and a partner for Hughes. New York does this deal to get rid of a headcase and get a young player like Gaudette or Virtanen that may fit better into their system then ours. Vancouver does this deal to get rid of an almost impossible contract to move in Eriksson without having to give up multiple 1st round picks. 1
WHL rocks
Looks like DeAngelo for Bennett could be in the works. DeAngelo makes 4.8 M signed thru next season. Bennett makes 2.55 M and RFA at end of season. Flames are doing due diligence on DeAngelo according to Larry Brooks. Flames probably want NYR to eat some salary on DeAngelo's contract to even things out. https://news.google.com/articles/CAIiEEP813M69jvnlqGXElfhSC0qGAgEKg8IACoHCAowhK-LAjD4ySwwi9a0BQ?hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen Edited February 5, 2021 by WHL rocks

The Rangers have little to no interest in saddling themselves with an onerous obligation in order to ease DeAngelo out of the organization. If talks are ongoing with Flames re Bennett GM Gorton would have to be a complete idiot to take a bad contract back from a different team. Bennett is a solid physical player who performs his best in playoffs. Rags take that and run. Dont even answer JBs phone calls.
