We miss Stecher more than most fans will admit.  He was one of our best defensive d-men.  One of our quickest at puck recovery and getting it or moving it out of the zone.  And was relied on for the PK. Paired with Edler last season and the playoffs, they had the best plus minuses on the team. He's exactly what we need more of.

The reason they didn't sign him is the extra 1.5 million was spent on Schmidt's 6 million per, instead of 4.5 mil per for Tanev.

That’s the part of this where I balk as well.  Toffoli’s biggest impact would just be that we don’t have to play him.

We replaced Tanev with Schmidt who was a stud on a team better than us last year.

I’m on the fence about the coaching issues - maybe that’s a piece of the puzzle. But it’s also largely mental - which means it can get worse and the team can keep imploding - or it can snap back and all of a sudden we’re scratching our heads as to why we sucked to bad to start the year.

(“Chemistry” they’ll say.)

We were giving up chances similar to this last year. Although a little watered down since this year is just god awful.

Last year we just had Marky to bail us out.

Remember games 4-7 vs Vegas. Only Demko deserved to go to 7 games.

Team D has been a problem for a while. It's worse this year and we don't have Marky anymore.

It's not just you....  our D is just roaming like crazy, our forwards aren't covering for them, everybody is committing turnovers, just a circus out there.

If I wanted to watch a circus, I'd rather watch a monkey eating a fireball than this sh!tshow.

Team leadership, depth and team culture are vastly different with those two on the team and in the dressing room.

Team plays more cohesively and as a unit instead of running around like a chicken with its head cut off.

That's a weak team then....   Don't forget that we had Toffoli for a grand total of TEN regular season games.

Quinn sucking can be attributed to Tanev, I'll give you that.  Quinn is supposed to be our best d-man, and he's not playing like one.  Myers is really sucking big time this year too.

The players need to wake up and stop sulking if that’s the case.

Well, seeing this group play every team in the division now, I’m pretty confident in saying the Canucks still look like a rebuilding franchise, as its been exposed by playing vs a stronger division.

ive supported Benning, and still love what he’s done outside free agency....  but now that we have the young core, we need someone who can competently  take this group and build around it.

Fire Benning.  Tank.  Retool.

This team, with the air starting to come out of the Sedin era balloon, should have had an experienced GM for that coming important transition.  And sure, hire Benning in charge of scouting if you like. I also think a President is important, and Linden working with a veteran GM where he could learn a lot would have been ideal for him. A veteran GM also may have valued more the talents of Gilman. Who knows.

We let go cap master Gilman and hired a potato Wisebroad. Horrible move.

Linden was hired to rebuild the teams reputation locally and league wide. He was more of a sales rep than a president imo.

Aqua should call up Rutherford. He just quit in PIT. Very experienced 3 time Cup winning executive GM. Well respected league wide.

Listening to Green that the team "looks tired"

WTF?

What does he mean tired?

Tired sleepy? Not getting enough sleep?

Tired mentally? They're not sharp enough? The other team is out thinking them?

Tired physically?  Green is bag skating them too much?

Tired of hockey, playing on a recently gutted team?

Just seems like a strange word to use to use as an excuse.  Only 14 games played ffs.

poland GIF

tired....

Team D has been a problem for a while. It's worse this year and we don't have Marky anymore.

And it's exacerbated by the fact that we rely heavily on our possession game to offset our defensive deficiencies. And when our top forwards aren't performing, it trickles down to D.

He shouldn’t have signed Jake then.   If that’s the case it came down to either Toffoli or Jake.

He wasn't a PKer for us and only averaged 15:21 last year during the season and 16:20 in the playoffs.

He was a top 6 D for us at best.

We also sucked defensively last year. Gave up a lot of chances as well. There's a reason why Marky was our MVP.
