If there’s players pouting over that then they need to be moved. We want players that will buy in for better or for worse. It’s not their job to think about what management is doing, it’s their job to play hard and let the chips fall where they may.

Their d zone stats have been brutal for a few years   now.  They are being asked to play the same way and expecting different results.  Hard as a  player to buy into that strategy.  It is likely no coincidence that players that have been successful elsewhere come.to the Nucks and struggle to even be mediocre.

Even teams like Ottawa play hard and they know they’re not winning a cup.

 

Not playing hard almost guarantees the moves management made will result in a poor season. I don’t buy this argument.

 

Also that means they just don’t care about Demko? They’re gonna hang him out to dry because they miss Markstrom?

 

I think people are reading too much into it. Players lose friends on the team all the time. Doesn’t mean you jus quit on the rest of your teammates. Never win a championship with that mentality.

I would read more into the comments about players not being on the same page.

 

Thats what I see on the ice. I don’t see a cohesive unit when they play. That comes down to players and coaches communicating.

 

Either the coaches aren’t communicating properly or the players aren’t buying in. Either way the leadership in this group needs to correct this.

Saw that LE was in the lineup and chose not to watch this game.  That's where I draw the line - (as I said in the postseason = done with LE - he's unwatchable).

 

Passed a friend down the street - longtime Leafs fan headed home to watch the game - asked why I wasn't - I laughed - and called a 5-0 result.  Wish I wasn't as close at that, but not 'surprised'.   MacEwen and Virtanen and that's something I want to see regardless - throwing Bailey in in those circumstances - not sure that's a winning move.

LE - for me = unconditional waivers.

 

Feel for Edler in particular - and Chatfield.  Rookie D in the lineup are a challenge to 'shelter' at the best of times - but having a rookie on your shutdown pairing - getting 29.5% ozone starts - those are some really challenging minutes/circumstances for that pairing.   Looks like they struggled last night - from the boxscore - and highlight package.  Starting watching the replay - saw that tickytack looking-for-a-penalty they dished Edler from the outset - shook my head and decided that's enough x2.

 

Multiply that X2 for the Hughes pairing.   Tanev was the foundation of both the shutdown pairing with Edler - and the less opportune minutes for Hughes (ie particularly  dzone start situations) - his absence has really hampered both those pairings - and having a rookie and replacement/7D (Benn) in those roles - for me is the biggest challenge for the team to overcome (the reason I would have prioritized re-signing Tanev).   People here that slept on Tanev's value / thought it was wise to 'let him go' - might be getting a solid glimpse of it right about now...

 

Looked like about par for the season thus far -  EP missing open nets and ringing posts/crossbars = evidence he's a true Canuck lol.  Looking forward to him breaking out of that curse.

 

Miller's offside goal - about sums up their first 15 games....Sometimes you just have to laugh.   Anyhow - at least they'll have a couple days between before facing Calgary at home, obviously flagging  - (unfortunately a covid return of Tanev and Marky - to an empty arena...)

 

Kudos to Malhotra - as I said when they signed him - he's exactly what the Leafs needed (a dose of real hockey / Canucks hockey lol).

Quickly losing interest in this team. Don't know why I should watch 3 hours of the same old dog$&!# hockey. Team looks uninterested.

You have to be fast to put pressure on the opposing team and they look like they have cinder blocks tied to their ankles. The bottom two lines are especially slow to every puck but right now the whole team just looks slow. That needs to be addressed next year somehow. Maybe it’s a conditioning issue.

@oldnews I really like Chatfield's game. For all the talk about losing a heart and soul / all out effort guy in Stretcher, I think they have something in JC.  It's too bad his NHL debut has to be when the team is at its worse.

this screams bandwagoner fan to me. If your a fan of the team you watch them thru the good, bad and the ugly. You can also record and watch it skipping commercial etc to cut down on time.

we have speed, we just chose not to ice some of that speed last night... Virtanen, macEwen both have speed they just need a coach who trusts them or sees their speed and puts them in and preaches that they play like Clamato!

I mentioned in a previous post the same thing.  The vet loaded line up is a kiss of death, esp. when they can't execute anyways.  You need more Nils/Chatfield's in the line up to generate SOME turnovers.  TOR is basically holding on to the puck with ease.

Well that’s where I would argue fatigue is playing a factor.

 

For a team that relies heavily on a strong forecheck and cycle, if you’re getting beaten to the puck time and time again it makes it almost impossible to generate offense and sustain pressure.

 

Im seeing a team that is a step behind all game. Sometimes that 10% difference in energy makes all the difference.

 

Not trying to make excuses because there are also other factors contributing, but I think fatigue is exacerbating the problem.

You can also record and watch it skipping commercials etc and stop watching when they get three goals down to cut down on time.
