Ok,

Team obviously has issues and not in a good mood,

let`s all just take a deep breath( also looking at you Benning)

let`s not to trade picks, if season is lost so be it, we draft high,

let`s not give up on our core, they are a good core and prospects, have a little faith in them, they are smart, they will figure it out.

If battering in losses continues, fire the coach and this time hire an experienced NHL coach,

That`s how a good team gets built,

it`s a weird shortened season anyway,

and obviously don`t sign crazy contract on the future free agency seasons please, now it is a time a manage the cap wisely, every penny counts.

again that`s how the good organizations do,

draft well and manage the cap.

There is giving enough time when there are at least some signs of turning it around even after loses. But there are no signs just same old cr*p. Coach needs to go and his pet vet Sutter and bottom six along with Edler.

Right now the team is like a old car engine that isn't running well.  One guy might say it's a piece of junk and scrap it while another might start looking at the carbs, timing, points, etc.  Currently, the mechanic is Green, and he's getting the car to turn over and run, but it's misfiring more than half the time.  If it were a V8 it would be running on 4 cylinders at most.  If he knows what he's doing and has some patience (and the car owner doesn't decide to scrap it or change mechanics) he might be able to get it roaring to life.  There are a lot of moving parts.  I don't think the parts themselves are all that bad.  We aren't a hugely different team than the one that did so well in the playoffs last year.

The first two periods of the last game against the leafs were pretty good.  There wasn't a lot of puck luck, but the effort and most importantly the defensive play was there.  They even mostly held it together in da tird but for a very short melt down that cost them the game.  They need to learn to follow the puck to the net better (I know this because that's how other teams are beating them) and continue to play well defensively.  Get Brock and Petey shooting more on the PP (by getting the puck in their wheelhouse more effectively).

I have the patience to wait this out.  The 'core' are pretty young still and there's a chance the team will pull it together this season.  Panicking now and selling low on some players is not the solution.  A change in coaches might be needed, hard to say, but for sure you give it more time.

I give benning the next coaching change and half of next season, don`t forget the mess he was given at start of his tenure and I think he has done well,

mistakes? hell ye, big ones like Eriksson contract, very big, every GM makes mistakes, overally I like what he has done.

by the end of next season we should have a very good playoff team,if not and this is not just a off year, then fire him.

but don`t hire a gillis type of GM, actually hire  "draft well and develop GM" who has a vision and a system, who makes a pool full of prospects.

That’s why I’m hoping for a coach change soon, see how the team responds. And if the results continue for the entire remainder of the season you don’t have to worry about it being a fluke and Benning might not be the biggest issue here. I worry they won’t do anything this year and wait till part way through next. Or do you just ride green till the FA are run out in two years and the core is older and ready to push? I’d rather have a new coach with a whole full season under his belt

We do need some one who doesn't need two chances to answer the question what is 2 + 2 = ? His salary cap budget abilities are just too much to over come. Not only has he failed to build a  good on ice product but he's failed ( IMHO ) to build an management team too. Remember this guy has been here for almost 7 years .... say that slowly 7 years. What we have here is nothing to do with the past it's all on JB. I doubt if Gillis would return but he had the most successful team in the franchise history and was awarded GM of the year ... I can't see JB ever ever repeating the success of Gillis.. Two Presidents Cups, game 7 of the SC, GM of the year as well as Championship Conference and Division, That dreams gone. Gillis did want to rebuild and ownership didn't, that what Gillis was accused of. He  was arrogant for sure but judge him on success not any personal angst

Gillis left us with empty prospect pool and no system(culture) and aging tired squad, I rate the GM with what he leaves behind and he left a big mess.

Don`t rate Lombardi that much either.

That's incorrect in so many details. First when Gillis arrived players did not want to play in Vcr, fact!. He set about changing that culture. New dressing room,  resident chef for all day meals and menu explantions for healthier players, He bought an AHL franchise to ensure development ( after years of being booted around with Chicago Wolves,) Sleep doctor, now a standard for most teams. If there was one man that shook up the NHL game schedules it was Gillis who used to travel to NY and sit across the table and demand better schedues, and got them!! He drafted Horvat, traded for Markstrom and signed FA  Tanev. He promoted Burrows and Rypien amongst others. He signed Lapierre and Shane O'Brien, Erhoff, Higgins, Gillis it should be remembered got us so close to the SC and you disrespect the guy, shame on you. He did more than any other GM for the Vancouver Canucks before or after his appointment. You may not like the man for personal reasons, and that's fine,  but don't use false logic to take away from his achievments

wow, what a revolutionary genius, that is why after canucks every team was and are in line for hiring him.

although,I give him credit for his stanley cup runs but that`s it, he did not draft sedins, he did not draft luongo, he inherited the core and his drafting was awful,I hate managements who trade future for nows and leave behind a mess, the success of GM imo is building a franchise that is always competing while managing the cap and prospect pool. I might be wrong and have nothing against Gillis personally, but I do not like his management style, I might be wrong and i accept that possibility,

I stand by my last post about how i rate GM.

I will rate Benning with that measurement too when he leaves.

We can't rely on Marky forever. I think JB made the right move to let Marky go, especially with the expansion draft coming around the corner. I don't think goaltending is currently the issue right now, the defense is terrible and I guess a lot of it is due to the tough schedule and the lack of practice time. I do agree though that Toffoli should've been resigned, especially at 4.25 M. And Stetcher of course.

Goaltending collectively has dropped quite a bit from last season,  Holtby has yet to have a really good game, Demko has had 2 maybe 3, but also some bar burners.    TT has scored exactly one goal and one assist outside of the Vancouver games....highly doubt he's ascending into a PGP player, no matter how many games we play against each other.    Doubt any of those contacts age well... Goaltending for sure is part of the issue right now - sp .900 and all...but agree it's not the main issue - that's defense and quality of shots allowed (passing the puck through the slot in our own zone etc)....

Wow his glowing achievements, drafting three NHLers over six drafts : Horvat, Hutton, Cannaughton ...  he's factually the worst drafter all-time, and can't blame it on giving away all his picks because he didn't really do that either -  he had 37 of a total 42 (minus one first i believe).   You do know that wasn't our first game seven series right?   Nobody around for both would pick Gillis as a better GM, Quin built that entire team, Gillis as you so eloquently put it " added, Erhoff, Higgins, O'Brian, Lappy - don't forget Torre, Hamhuis, Booth and Ballard (the last two an equivalent of 12 million in wasted cap in today's money).    Erhoff and Hamhuis were the only impact players he added that played on his team - over SIX years.    Worst GM at everything ever - but bringing a level of professionalism to the organization, oh and at getting players to join his county club to get the extra money to put the cherries on top - by handing out clauses, Luongo deal etc - all to throw it in the garbage with Booth and Ballard (who both ended up with buyouts)....

Also, for the record, I never understood why Nonis wasn't given a little more time.   He had one of the best drafts any GM had for us ever, brought in Luongo etc... That said i'm not upset over Gillis either - he was the man at the helm during our best run of regular season hockey to date.   Teams widely considered the best team not to win a cup in the modern era.    The 94 final is still considered the best final of the modern era.   Canuck luck has to level out sometime for us fans right?    See a possible other MG scenario looming with this team we have right now.   JB is our Burke,  Nonis up next lol...five years form now EP and QHs will only be 26ish right?

Lets me just say, Gillis has publicly stated he'd like to rejoin the NHL but NOT as a GM. The Luongo deal, lets be genuine was scuppered by the NHL new CBA retroactively !!!  Gillis never had a top pick in the draft, he suffered from too much on ice success LOL

Quote

Nobody around for both would pick Gillis as a better GM,

Maybe not the uneducated fans but the other GM's in the NHL voted Gillis the top GM in the league

Quote

The 94 final is still considered the best final of the modern era.

It was a great final and guess  what every fan offered praise, and rightfully so, Gillis does the same and he is rewarded with scorn. Plus of course Quinn's team never won the Presidents trophy a couple of times for sustained success over a season. There's a lot, a lot, of Gillies haters in BC, they couldn't handle his arrogance ... IMO that's their problem

Quote

Erhoff and Hamhuis were the only impact players

To even suggest that the likes of Lapierre Higgin etc did not impact the team is disingenuous in the extreme, what wouldn't we give for a couple of players like that now ?? This team is crying out for heart and more physical play

Any way folks will hang their hats on Benning's drafting despite that his success is no better than 50% ( Virtanen, McCann and Juolevi, the next Mr Orr LOL ) talk about a false equivalent The best thing Benning did for drafting in Vcr was promote Brackett and now that's gone too !!! along with Gilman the guy that ... you know  .... that made sense   Fans have been sold a pup and they're eating it up praise be to Caesar. The drafting hype is a false claim repeated again and again. Now folks are starting to wake up to the facts "The Emperor has no cloths" ... enjoy

I know folks don't like to hear bad news, no one does, but I'm not a sheep and like to make my own choice and not be swept along with hype. The only time Benning will be judged fairly is after he's gone and fans will understand they've been duped. Remember all the Virtaten apostles ... where are they now

A bit of time. Yeah, that's the problem.

It was a short preseason, but so it was for every team. But the Canucks still aren't ready, the spent to much time in gym with the usuall testing and all that stuff. The Coaches thought, they could do the practice on the fly during the season. They're wrong.

The Defense is the problem, they need practice to find together. Unfortunately they wasted to much time in the preseaon doing unnecessary things.

I just think you gotta make a management splash every 5-10 years. GM’s become too emotionally involved in their mistakes and overvalue the players they’ve accumulated. You need a guy to come in who doesn’t give a crap about who drafted when and what we gave up to get whatever.

NO NO and NO it's been a decade since we went to the finals.  How many decades does it take to rebuild?????????  If the team keeps playing this bad - heads MUST roll.

Enough is Enough!

JB and TG have had lots of time and we're still going backwards.

Short term is the next 4 games against Cgy.  Will tell a lot about the guts of the team and whether or not they can turn around the losing streak.

Mid term is the rest of the season.  With 24 games out of 40 against Edm Cgy and Wpg the results of the series with these 3 teams will determine whether or not the Canucks make the playoffs this year.

Longer term is the next two years.  Here big dough comes off the books and the team turns from top heavy with dead cap to much leaner.  Will allow for some real change and potentially pick up a 2D and 3C that could really help.

Long term is the maturation of the kids on the team and whether or not this core is a legit contender.

I like our chances but there are no guarantees for Canuck fans as we know.  50 years and counting.

Whether JB and Green are part of the team in the next year or two is hard to say.  I would guess not. Kinda like in Casino when the mob is discussing whacking a guy.  Ultimately the decision is, why take the chance? Lol.

Anyway I believe that this core will have a run at some point in the next 2 to 5 years. I don't think Benning and Green will be in charge at that point. I believe that we may get a cup with this group so I am willing to have some patience with the players. Not so much with the coach though..and JB I think will ultimately get the chop.  Am hoping that ownership picks well for his successor.

You really think canucks have not made any progress?

age of roster, amount no trade clauses, prospect pool, last year run,the core?

a lot of dead money will be clear this year,

half of next season I would rate benning, next offseason is his key moment.

he might do it wrong he might do it right.
