The discussion about these guys' future always seem to assume that they want to stay, given enough lucrative contracts. That there is an established truth. I'm a sucker for loyalty, but can't see any reason for that. I mean, would you stay here if in their position? Why? I may have missed something. Maybe they've stated a wish to be a part of Vancouver for a long time. If so, great. If not, I would like to see a broader discussion about the team Anno Domini EPQHELCE (EP QH Entry-Level Contract Ending). Pronounced i-pi-kju-el-tjee GCG! You don't think that Hughes and Pettersson want to stay in Vancouver? Hockey is a business at the end of the day. I think this current management isn't going to be around when negotiations begin for Hughes and Pettersson. I think the reality is that both of these players know and understand that players move around all the time. That can't be the reason for why they're not going to stay here. Each player will have to decide what they want to do. With that being said, I think Petey and Hughes will be Canucks for a very long time. Maybe even life-time Canucks. This does depend on the role of management. Continue pissing off your players, and well, all bets are off. 1
Junkyard Dog
Quote “Google it.” That’s the advice Elias Pettersson offered up to a reporter in Ottawa for proof that his dream was not only to play in the NHL, but play in Vancouver, for the Canucks. “This has always been my dream, what I’ve always been working for growing up. Now I’m here, living my dream,” Pettersson said following the Canucks’ 4-3 overtime win against the Senators. A reporter followed up with asking him which team he dreamed of playing for. Pettersson’s response? “Vancouver.” Indeed, there is visual evidence available online from a story written by Swedish newspaper Expressen last April. The photo features a five-year-old Pettersson with a blonde mullet and a Vancouver t-shirt, giving double peace signs to the camera. He’s posing behind a birthday cake, which of course was hockey-themed. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/pettersson-kid-vancouver-shirt-canucks 1 1
ImConfused
Money talks and Aquaman's got a fat chequebook. Anything else is just crossing the Ts and dotting the Is. Petey and Huggy will have the Brinks truck backed up to their door to ENSURE that they are going to be anchoring the core of the Canucks first (and second?) Stanley Cup winning roster. /thread 1

shiznak
If I had to put money on who is more likely to leave, it’s Quinn. At some point in their careers, the Hughes brothers would want to play together, whether it’s here or somewhere else remains to be seen.

Well there's a decent chance we end up with Luke this next draft if this play continues.

IBatch
The RFA thing has been brought up - but what about the friendships BB, Horvat, EP and QHs are making? You can bet they miss Tanev and Markstrom too, but they are kids playing with vets and know they have a finite time span - and we're warned by JB changes were coming (as we were by fans) and that not everyone would be back. TT scoring all but two of his points against us - typical Canuck luck, and won't be too surprised if Markstrom has some monster games against us too. That said the 8.5 million plus Demko plus a good prospect like Hogs to sell Sutter or whomever to free up the cap we'd need to sign those guys ... and the fact those contracts likely at best would age just ok, at worst poorly.... Sure PLD was having a tough time and asked for a trade - and Laine is finding out that TT is a hard ass old school coach after his first benching already. That i could get (especially given the more recent generations don't react as well as gen x and baby boomers to this sort of fear and punish based tactics) ... The way the guys celebrate the past 18 months and the playoffs ... you just know they are a tight knit group - who still has their coaches ear. Played well last game - and against WNP, so we know they can still do it too.
goalie13
Additionally, Hughes won't be a regular RFA at the end of this deal. He's a 10.2(c) RFA, meaning he cannot sign an offer sheet from other teams.

Pronounced i-pi-kju-el-tjee GCG! there's a loooong time before they become UFA, so I wouldn't worry much about it. ONe of the silver linings of the season so far is that their poor play is pushing them into moderate bridge deal territory as opposed to huge, cap eating payday RFA territory
