Nucker 67
Lucic has gotten a lot of flack around here, but the guy is made of stone and never ever gets injured. He can throw a mean body check too. Just having him on the team make his team mates a foot taller. I wonder how many would make that Eriksson-Lucic trade now. 1

Motte's 70 hits in 15 games is a 383 hits / 82 games - an insane pace. And Miller has 38 in 14 games - which tracks as 223 hits in 82 games... Virtanen is tracking at 191 hits/82. Roussel 32 in 16 - 164... MacEwen, Edler, Beagle, Pearson all, likewise, tracking for some pretty high hit totals. I think the OP probably means a face-puncher moreso.... I'd propose Roussel to Deadmonton for Kassian (again lol) - but the Coil gave Kassian a 4 year x 3.2 million deal - so I'm not sure that's 'cap friendly' for this team.... Not easy to find a guy that can play - at reasonable terms - that can also provide 'enforcement'. 1

Please show me where I said that? I knew what you were saying. Everyone who's been following the team knows there's no 'identity' now. As a team, they're not playing skilled, they're not playing tough, they're not playing defensive, they're not playing anything but disorganized, sloppy and unable to execute. Juice said it himself - they are 'fun' to play against right now which isn't a good thing. You suggesting that acquiring guys who can hit and fight people will change the direction this team is on right now however, puts you in the minority I believe. The skilled guys would play without fear. This team has zero intent on sticking up for each other , ask Bailey after last night. The smallest guy on your team besides hogs leads your team in hits, no thanks.

The smallest guy on your team besides hogs leads your team in hits, no thanks. The game has moved past the requirement of having a number of players who fight nightly. We have plenty of players who hit, including Motte who you dismissed based off his size. Leading the NHL in hits is absolutely nothing to scoff at, and having a player like on the ice does make the team more difficult to play against. The Canucks have a combined 390 hits this season. In comparison to the top teams in each division that is a high number, all be it with more games played. Toronto has 244 Vegas has 281, Boston has 266, Tampa has 263. Obviously those numbers will be higher when those teams have played 5 more games, but Vancouver is currently hitting at a higher pace then those teams. I also don't believe for one second that our skilled guys are playing in fear. Our skilled guys are highly competitive players who don't scare away from physical play. Horvat, Miller, and Petey all have no hesitation throwing their weight around when the going gets tough. This team is currently playing a flawed game, the results clearly show that. But we aren't being run out of buildings or being bullied. We are being beat by defensive laps and bad on ice judgement calls. We are not difficult to play as a team because of those factors, not our lack of physical play.

What exactly are we in disagreement over? You stated we need to bring in "anyone who will throw a body check" and that will help correct our current path. I'm saying that we already have plenty of players who do that, so it isn't the fix. Edit: for the record I love disagreement in hockey talk. It makes for the best conversations. That's why I more often engage with people with opposite opinions rather pump tires of the same. The smallest guy on your team besides hogs leads your team in hits, no thanks. I 100% agree with this. I remember stats from when Lucic played in Edmonton, there was less man games lost to their stars. Milan scares people, everyone stands a foot taller when he plays. People are less likely to take liberties. If you remember Bieksa last year when Sam Bennett was out throwing like 7 hits a game. It was when he joined Lucic's line, and bieksa even said' how big do you think Sam Bennett feels right now'. even last night, we were playing the body and making hits and getting scrappy. Then during a faceoff, Lucic took off a glove and pointed to his head and addressed Rooster saying use your head and it all stopped. Macewen was also playing the body hard on the first period, and then Milan talked to Mac and I bet he said something along the lines of' keep it up and you deal with me', and it stopped. We need a slight fear factor, which we tried to address in Ferland. Just bad luck he's got a soft head.
