Okay so what would do you think a more fair return would be?

Your return was fair for sure - if anything maybe Sutter is worth more then a 4th...retain 50% and he's a second in normal years now that his contract is done.   The only issue i have is the amount of money both EP and QHs are getting ...  too much each on bridge deals.

Tdl:

Pearson to playoff team for 2nd round pick

Sutter to playoff team for 4th rounder

Benn to playoff team for 4 or 5th rounder

Edler isn't getting traded

Pre-expansion trades:

Van trades Virtanen & 3rd rounder to Boston for Brandon Carlo.

Van trades: Gaudette + prospect to Nash for Jarnkrok

Buyouts:

Eriksson (4 million cap hit next, 1 million the following)

Roussel (1,733,333 cap next, 633K following)

Protection list:

Forwards:                        Defence:

Petey                                   Carlo

Boeser                              Schmidt

Bo                                      Juolevi

Miller

Jarnkrok                           Goalie:

Motte                                Demko

MacEwen

Expansion Draft: Seattle takes Myers

UFA:

Lowry to 4 year 3.75 million per

Savard to 2 years 3 million per

Hyman to 3 years 4 million per

Miller - Pete - Boeser

Hog - Bo - Hyman

Jarnkrok - Lowry - Podz

Motte - Beagle - MacEwen

Extras: Michaelis, Hawryluk

Hughes - Carlo

Schmidt - Tryamkin

Juolevi - Savard

Demko

Holtby

I think this makes us A LOT tougher to play against. That 3rd line has a mix of scoring, toughness/grit and would provide this team with the kick in the ass it needs some nights. Hyman provides us with excellent 2 way play and I think would mesh well with Bo & Hogs. Savard is a minute munching, penalty kill, block machine. He doesn't provide any offense, but with him and Nikita I think this could make our PK A LOT better.

Wishful thinking probably, but this is what id aim for. I think we can make this all work under the cap with expiring deals, Myers being selected, plus buyouts and still get extensions done for Pete, Hughes & Demko.

4 year contract on Hughes or Petterson is a straight up non starter...

That puts them into UFA after the contract with very little reasoning...

A bridge deal would have to align to a 3 year deal at most. Either way just pay those two kids they are studs and we all know it.

The trickier contacts are the ones that come after

I like many of your targets and the general approach here, esp Lowry and Savard who are my main UFA targets for JB.

There is no way Boston is giving up Carlo though, and certainly not for JV + 3rd! It is more likely Edler is resigned for around $3-4m on a 1 year deal. Hamonic may also be resigned if we can get him on a cheap deal too.

I would also like to see some of our prospects making an appearance on the roster next season. So this may make the roster look more like this:

Pettersson Horvat Podkolzin

Hoglander Miller Boeser

Motte Lowry Virtanen

Gadjovich Beagle MacEwen

(Michaelis, Jasek)

Hughes Savard

Juolevi Schmidt

Edler Hamonic

(Rathbone, Tryamkin)

Demko, Holtby

UFA signings

Adam Lowry 3,500,000 x 4

Blake Coleman 2,500,000 x 3

Antti Raanta 3,550,000 x 3

David Savard 4,250,000 x 4

Alex Edler 2,200,000 x 2

You might get Savard at that price, but you won't get any of the others at those prices. Lowry, Coleman and Raanta all get re-signed for more than that, never mind if they get to free agency, and Edler wouldn't sign for that either.

Savard isn't exactly having the greatest offensive season. I would be very surprised if he gets more than a 2 year contract at 3 million per.

As far as the other contracts, flat cap will surely come in to the equation again this offseason.
