It would be great if we can turn it around. But if we can’t, then we need to consider selling players on expiring contracts. We saw what happen to Marky, Tanev, and Toffoli last offseason. Cant have a repeat of that. Need to capitalize on the value they have. Otherwise, cheers everyone. Enjoy the game! I’m looking forward to it. Maybe it’s a start of a turnaround

Seems like Jim Benning is showing is Asset management skills

That just doesn’t make sense to me.

At the very least we can use the picks to fill in the loss of those players with new 25-28 year old vets and start the cycle again.

You do realize that there will be almost no trades this year, right? Especially straight up player for picks trades. The only trades that are going to be able to happen are straight player for player trades with basically equal money going each way. There are currently only 2 teams in playoff contention with more than 2 million in cap space and they are Florida and LA and only one of those probably has a legit chance of making the playoffs.

the Oilers are interested in Sutter, please tell me why can't you trade him for a 4th, even trade him to a team in the states for a 4th

That's how Jake feels instead of a goalie graveyard when we were known for now its players graveyard.  If you r playing well your benched that is your reward...

If you have a few Ferrari's and the rest are beat up VW GTI's.

Don't be surprised if no one wants the beat up GTI's and you're unwilling to part with the Ferrari's.

Because Sutter has a salary of $4.375 million this year and Edmonton has $0 in usable cap space

Fortunately, cap hits are pro-rated for the number of remaining games when players are traded and we can retain salary. So Sutter at 50% retained would carry a cap hit in the neighborhood of ~850k to the team receiving him. That team can place the player Sutter is replacing in the line up on the taxi squad to make room for that 850k.
