[Report] Montreal fires goaltending coach Waite and hire Sean Burke

What makes Burke attractive to the Canadiens?

Basu: Burke had a strong record as a goaltending coach with the Arizona Coyotes for years, and has served as a goaltending consultant and pro scout for the Canadiens. What’s interesting here is that Burke has not been named goaltending coach, but rather director of goaltending, which would suggest the Canadiens are instituting a goaltending department similar to what the Florida Panthers have done under Roberto Luongo. Burke has long been considered a potential NHL general manager, so shifting to a more active role like this does strengthen the front office.”

Habs shaking all sorts of things up

Wonder if we'll see deadline moves from them

They don’t have much for cap space.  Any moves would have to be the of “the money in = money out” variety

Sean Burke is likely being geared up to be Bergevin's replacement. Burke has been rumored to be in contention for a lot of NHL jobs over the last few years.

Also, with teams adding more people to the front office, it feels so strange how SMALL the Canucks front office is. The fact that it's basically 3 guys (Jim Benning, Former NBA GM John Weisbrod, and Chris Gear) is telling about what the faults of the club are. I hope when Benning is replaced that Aquaman has enough guts to hire a guy who wants structure and more voices in the room -- not less.

I don’t think so.  At least not for the Habs job.  He’s not from the ‘right province’.  Some, like Bob Gainey was an exception to that given his Cup winning history with the club as an elite defensive winger (and of course one time Captain of the Habs).  You think the media are tough here?  Nothing like how tough it is over in Quebec.

That’s not at all the his reputation. The rumour is this move was requested by Price.

dunno Q, anyone that treats PK that way after the guy commits 10 million to the community.... he sure strikes me as an asshat.

Price has certainly earned the right to ask for a new coach if he wants one tho.

As a player Bergevin  had a reputation as a great locker room guy and a prankster.  I’ve never read a single negative thing about him as a person.   I hated the Subban trade.  But the bottom line is it’s a business.
