With the win tonight the Canucks record is now 11-15-2. Based on 65pts to make the playoffs or 9 pts above .500 ( the most common prediction I have heard to make the playoffs) The win tonight leaves them with 24 pts which leaves them needing 41 points in their next half of the season.

I believe the best possible chance they have to get back to playoffs leads right through Ott let me explain.

Remaining games

4 against MTL

6 against Edm

6 against Ott

4 against Win

4 against Cal

4 against Tor

The good news is they only have 4 games remaining against MTL, I believe they have to at least go .500 with them. Mtl has had the Canucks number this season and I do not think we can expect much more from these 4 games but they need to go .500.

The path is through Ott and Mtl is a big reason for it. If I am right the Canucks can not gain ground with the MTL games that leaves the Canucks needing to sweep Ott. If the Canucks win all 6 of the games with Ott and 2 against Mtl that makes their record 19-17-2. That leave the Canucks needing 25 points out of the other 18 games.

All this said that leaves the Canucks having to go 4-2 against Edm, 3-1 against Win, 3-1 against Cal, and 3-1 against Tor. That is 26 pts leaving them a 1 loser point cushion.

If you believe the Canucks can do this they can make the playoffs if not. It is over.

IMHO, they may not be mathematical eliminated, but realistically eliminated  (to little to late)

The good news is that, out of the teams they are chasing, only Montreal and Winnipeg are actual NHL teams.  It should be reasonably easy to smoke both the Soilers and the Flamers if our guys are playing to the best of their ability.
