Thread title" Blow it up"

Proposal:

a 2nd pick out for whoever in.

conclusion:

Massive oversell with the title

Drats, missed the edit.

Pearson and sutter out, ok.

Edler and Hamonic both have NMC so why even mention them.?

Edler has declined  to be moved in the past so a massive long shot to go anywhere.

Hamonic chose the Canucks as the best match of for his family's needs. I'd say he is more unlikely to move than Edler

its been reported edler will consider a trade this go around and they both have ties to the city of WPG so if they waive at all I see WPG as an option

That doesnt seem like a trade deadline move for a team that’s competing. If they’re moving someone because of Seattle it’ll be in the offseason prior to the expansion draft

ya I meant that trade is done in the off season after we acquire the picks at the deadline.

Love the idea of getting Graves. He's a great young defenseman who'd fit well. Only thing is Baumgartner would have to be fired in order to not ruin him.

I'd add Chatfield in a trade. Tryamkin is coming back.

My thoughts exactly.

And you're right, Edler isn't going anywhere.

Graves leds the team in SH minutes. Makar and him make up one of the best young defensive duos in the NHL.

It’s more likely that they’re going to protect him over Toews, since Colorado is already deep on the right-side.

Okay, although I agree that if we continue to trend outside the playoffs, that we should try and gain back some assets from expiring contracts, your proposal doesn't add up on a number of fronts.

Why would Arizona want Pearson for a pick? They are short on quality prospects already, due to getting slapped by the NHL etc. They are not a contender for the cup, they will likely be in sell mode as well.

Kyle Turris, does nothing for us, there will be better options out there, or we can continue to develop from within. If we are going to move Sutter, I'd rather just get as high a pick as possible. I'd also be open to resigning Sutter at the right rate, he's playing a lot better this season as he seems to be clear of injury issues for the moment and has been an effective penalty killer for us.

Hamonic has a full No Movement Clause and probably didn't ask for that, just so he could be moved at the deadline. Its "possible" but highly doubt it.

Edler has stated a number of times, he's not going anywhere, especially during a pandemic.

Benn, completely open to moving him, he's been solid this year, much better than last season. He seems to have finally settled in.

Keep trying, but also research what teams really need and what players have in terms of protection from moving and how realistic it is that they would waive.

check it for Pearson

Couldn’t care less about turris. Just trying to make the money work and hope he can play better in his hometown

Edler and hamonic hold the cards with NMC but I could see them interested in wpg, if they wanna win.

Love the idea of jettisoning expiring contracts for picks. But there are too many unrealistic assumptions here...

- Edler & Hamonic both have NMCs

- Sutter and Benn both have mNTCs

- Winnipeg and Calgary don't have the cap space for these deals

Lastly, this thing about getting a player cheap that a team like Colorado will "lose anyway". Not going to happen. No team is going to sell their 10th best player for cheap just to lose their 11th best player to Seattle instead. And Graves is not a good example of someone at risk, because there's no way they don't protect him in the first place.

Sakic knew expansion was coming when he gave up 2 x 2nds to get Toews.  Probably has a plan to keep his D-corps intact.

They’ve apparently been looking to trade Johnson last year.  If he agrees to waive his NMC they can protect 4 Ds - Makar, Graves, Girard, Toews.  They could also decide to buy him out for a 2M cap hit or maybe even protect 5 Ds.  Timmins and Byram are exempt.

Up front Landeskog is UFA and other than MacKinnon, Rantanen and maybe Kadri, not sure they are that worried about losing anyone.

Maybe the OP didn't make a lot of trade suggestions - but for sure the idea of "blowing it up" is valid.

Easy guys on the block this year for sure, remember we can retain on three players to make it a lot easier for potential acquisitions from playoff teams:

Low hanging fruit:

Pearson

Sutter

Maybes:

JV

AG

McEwen

Probably nots:

Everyone else - but you just never do know.

Blowing it up should include anyone really.   Even EP and QHs.   No way i'd suggest that .... remember all the BB trade threads last year?  LOL where'd they go Stawns?   Quite a few fans gave up on him and really should be eating a gigantic plate of crow pie right now.    BB plus plus for .... tiny little MIN often injured Dumba.    Ugh.   Myers is outplaying him this year.   And we got him for free (ok cap space - but 100% worth it).

Back to the OP again.   JB said he wants to keep Pearson.  That's ok depending on the cap hit of course.  3.5 x 3 i guess would be ok.   But i'd still rent him out - for sure he's worth a second and a B/C level prospect.   Coleman got a first last year (well basically a early second lol)....

Sutter is also worth a second with 50% retained.   Easy deal.   I also think Sutter is worth re-signing to eventually take over Beagles spot.   We suck in our bottom six center depth and will for sure have to go to free agency to fix it.   Might as well go with the devil you know and Sutter is one of the few (Motte is the other) who's getting the job done both D wise  and goal wise.    Still we could rent him and re-sign... tell him exactly that same with Pearson they'd get it for sure, both are pro vets.

JV AG and McEwen are also worth considering depending on future plans.  All three would get something back.  McEwen's stock goes up because he can fight and hit and muck it up - playoff value is higher then regular season value for sure.   JV and AG are more about our future plans then anything else.   I don't want to trade either of them - but also don't know what JB is planning either.

Id do Pearson and maybe Sutter.  That's it.   Not exactly "blowing it up".   But it is what it is.

With retention and some minor moves Pearson and Sutter at 50% retained will work for a lot of playoff teams - especially if they have injured players which is often the case (and once the playoffs start cap doesn't matter anymore)...

Trade Sutter, Pearson, Edler, and one of Hamonic or Benn at the deadline if we’re out of contention.  Keep everyone else.

Our team is primed and ready for a solid push forward starting in October 2022......which has been the plan for the last few years.
