The Canucks have been hot as of late, and it's time to take a breather from the hate and celebrate.

Special teams performance is quickly rising in today's NHL. The canucks have taken huge steps in this department.

January

the Canucks ranked 19th overall on the special teams hotness factor, 20th on special team%, and 26th in goal differential

                   PP%                                                       PK%                                   SPECIAL TEAM %              PENALTIES TAKEN-DRAWN                     Hotness Factor

14.6 79.6 94.2 -8.00 -0.36

February

the Canucks ranked 16th overall on the special teams hotness factor, 18th on special team%, and 18th in goal differential

                   PP%                                                       PK%                                    SPECIAL TEAM %              PENALTIES TAKEN-DRAWN                    Hotness Factor

17.1 81.8 98.9 -3.00 0.01

March

the Canucks rank 3rd overall on the special teams hotness factor, second on special team%, and 3rd in goal differential. right now the canucks are outscoring the opposotion by 0.33 goals a game on special teams alone.

                     PP%                                                       PK%                               SPECIAL TEAM %               PENALTIES TAKEN-DRAWN                      Hotness Factor

38.9 83.3 122.2 -6.00 0.50

and because everyone loves to hate him, sutter is ranked seventh for all forwards in killing penalties (minimum 20gp and 50min sh toi) and has drawn 5 more penalties then has has taken coming along with a 56% faceoff win percentage.

if the canucks replace rooster with vesey we might see a substantial drop in penalties taken-drawn , 50% less.

the only thing that has changed is Pettersson .... Pettersson do we really need him?

It's been a great March - that's for sure.

What else is for sure: If we bring the same game we brought against Ottawa the last 2 games, the streak isn't going to last much longer. Demko can only carry the team so far.

we are 5-0 vs ottawa this year, im pretty sure they outshot us every game.

and the powerplay has been just as important to our success in march just as demko's performance. the extra success on the powerplay equates to about 4.5 goals extra over february's average.

3 out of the seven games we wouldn't have won without our powerplay goals, demko also played great during these games. the 4-0 game versus winnepeg was a great team effort and 2 poweplay goals. the other 3 games we won demko saved our bacon, but our team stategy always changes when were leading. Motte doesn't usually play 20 minutes sutter doesn't usually play 19 and most nights we have a 12 man roster instead of a ten man.

I am not in that lockerroom so I have no idea what the problem was.

Were they saving energy for the Mtl series or was that their best effort and their best was to barely beat Ottawa? We got outplayed both night and were lucky to come out with Ws.

I get that athletes aren't machines but their inconsistent play when season is on the line makes me question whether this team has what it takes...

Happier that Vesey was signed actually...
