This team employs a collapse defensively and a chip and change offensively (derived from the chip and chase). Typically running the 0-5 formation offensively or on the rare occasion 1-4 weak side lock with a strong emphasis of protect the net upon entry.

This team is about as structured as Ottawa and Buffalo. The difference is, is our team has better players than those teams. Our neutral zone has weak pressure, our defensive end breakouts run with 3 center high with strong emphasis on the knife play to get the puck in deep, regardless of whether we send in a forecheck or not. The ironic bit is that in our own end, we play 5 within the dots. We hardly do bump plays off the half wall on the breakout because we usually have our forwards halfway up the ice so there's no support for the defensemen. And when we do get possession in the opposition neutral zone our players are either stalled at the blue or they're having 2 change with the third kept on to deflect it deep.

The structure is laughable because it's never been deployed by a winning team. Why you'd even argue this team has a structure is ridiculous and should be mocked by anybody that's even played the game at a relatively competitive level. Things you learn when you're 12 years old aren't even being utilized by this team.

thanks @DeNiro captain one-liner.

where there's smoke there isn't necessarily fire.

Boy it's been a tough year to be a Canucks fan.  Loss after loss.

Obviously the team isn't good enough yet. But is the team good enough to be above .500? I'm gonna say yes and that shows our lack of coaching.

Anyway,  I would like to see some changes because I want to have some hope for next year.  Tough tough tough to keep staying positive when our coach just comes out and says that's a good team over there after every loss...without offering any answers game after game.

Aqua let's make some changes in the offseason and give everyone some hope ok?

Why is almost everyone giving Benning a free pass? Green can only use what he is given. It has never been enough.

Sitting in first place with the coach that replaced Gallant, yes.

And with a much better lineup. They have spent the past couple years throwing away prospects and picks to gain players to contend. Not to mention the best goalie tandem in the league and another fantastic head coach.

It's a system that assumes you'll lose possession and count on the other team making a mistake to give it back, and won't pressure you in the zone.

Against passive 'pass' teams it works okay. IE if we play the Ottawas, we can beat them 'at our own system'.

No team has ever won anything playing passive hockey. Playing to not lose.

To win, you must want to win and put the effort in to do so.
