Do only refs get mic'd up or is there a chance it was a linesman talking? seriously doubt a linesman would say that, also do peel and sutherland usually ref together?, never really paid attention to that bit but i dislike the both of them.

This isn't surprising at all. The rules in the NHL are just simply based on the opinion of the refs. I think the NHL is the only major sport where the rules are different in the regular season and playoffs. regular season and playoffs? now that the refs work the whole series between clubs, the rules are different with the same refs 2 night in a row
Nuxfanabroad
I used to trust(mostly) guys like McCreary. I doubt honesty & integrity hold much value any more.

His Moustache alone controlled the game. You dare not disappoint or upset that soup skimmer or else. The rest of him was pretty in control too, but really, one glimpse at that duster and it's curtains for you. 1 2

This isn't surprising at all. The rules in the NHL are just simply based on the opinion of the refs. I think the NHL is the only major sport where the rules are different in the regular season and playoffs. Same here. I started to view the games differently from that point on. As fans of the Canucks, we are used to being an underdog. When we lose, despite questionable refereeing, I accepted that the other team won because they are better not because of refereeing or game management. 2011 was the first time we went into the finals as a top seed. It was disappointing to see the same type of game management be applied starting from round 1. I lost my true passion for the sport. At least I stopped viewing the games with an innocence but rather, that it is a business and there are millions of dollars at stake for certain parties. I still cheer for the team and it's still a great sport. But I don't think I'll ever be let down as much as I did after each playoff loss or get angry at the refs and lose temper as much as I did before.

Popular Post Azzy
If I were owner of an NHL team I'd be pushing for an independent refereeing association. The NHL determines the rulebook and independent referees are paid to officiate against those rules. I know a Premier League referee through my parents and he said that the only 'instruction' he has ever been given by the PL is to call his games according to the rules. Now those rules are bizarre and open to wide interpretation, but he's never been instructed to give Man United a penalty in the 97th minute for no reason. Quite unlike NHL refs it appears. 2 1

As that was a player greed situation not related to refereeing. NHL athletes make outrageous money, so it is surely not game management on their part,

Something will be done about it. The NHL will review their allowance of live mics on officials, probably moving back towards having mics only at the penalty boxes. regards, G.
