Provost
They overpaid for him, but he is still a really good defenceman. With a little salary retained, I can imagine that he would be a good target for some team on the cheap. I can only assume that they are hoping someone takes him on waivers before making that sort of deal? Do they want to move him to a team not on his modified NTC list and he is resisting?
Phil_314
Leafs draft pick? Claim him JB! (or Swede for Swede, send back Loui and a late pick ) Jokes aside, surprised he's getting waived.

Coconuts
I wonder if anyone claims him, this seems a bit surprising. Something around Stralman for Eriksson would be interesting, but realistically we probably don't want that last year of Stralman as much as we want cap space. Florida's actually competitive this season, if we offered up a piece that could help them compete they might consider it, considering Stralman won't be doing anything for them but eating up cap. Maybe something like Jake + Eriksson for Stralman and a 3rd? I like Jake, I'm open to retaining Jake, but I'm also okay with moving on from him. Maybe he'd have more success out east? Do a deal like that, and then offer up Florida's 3rd to Seattle to take Stralman? Something like that? Edited March 26, 2021 by Coconuts
SID.IS.SID.ME.IS.ME
I wonder if Florida is setting up for some major moves and going all in at the deadline. Amazingly, even with that Stralman contract, Goalie Bob at 10M, and around 5M in buyout/retained/cap recapture penalties, they’re still more than 3M under the cap, and have deadline cap space to add 15M of salary. That number goes even higher if they somehow shed Stralman. I don’t follow the team closely, but would be interesting to watch what moves they make, if they decide to push all their chips in this season.
Ghostsof1915
Still 8 more points than Eriksson has..... And Florida has the cap space to afford an extra $500,000. But I doubt the Panthers are that stupid. Wouldn't we have to protect him at expansion? Edited March 26, 2021 by Ghostsof1915

warrchief
I always liked Stralman but not his contract. However, he does have a 16 team no trade list so he would have to waive it to come to us probably. Jake + Eriksson for a 3rd + Stralman seems like a good deal considering how valuable picks are in two years of stagnant cap (this year and next). Ya, or again one of those cap going the other way deals. If they would take Roussel going the other way then we could find a way to make it work. The issue is really why Florida is waiving Stralman. He is a good player for them at half the price too. I can only imagine that they are actually trying to clear cap to make a big add for the playoffs. It doesn’t really make much sense otherwise. If they had a trade in place with a team that he wouldn’t waive to, waivers clears up that problem as he doesn’t get to say no anymore. If they are hoping to have someone pick him up to create cap space, we aren’t a good partner for them.

Loui for Stralman makes sense, Loui's not useful to Florida but they're gonna have Stalman's cap to deal with one way or another next season anyway if nobody claims him. If we can give them enough incentive to swap, say a Virtanen or Gaudette, that can actually slot into their lineup and help them compete I imagine they'd at least consider it. It'd give them an asset that costs them nothing but eating similar cap to the cap they're likely going to have to eat regardless. You could even make it something like Eriksson, Benn, and Virtanen for Stralman and a 3rd. Benn gives them a tougher D who can play both sides, Virtanen gives them an asset who's shown he can score before (one who might perform better out east), and Loui's basically a wash for Stralman's cap for the same amount of time. Then you try and flip Stralman, the 3rd, and maybe a 4th or lower end prospect (if needed) to dump the cap. Worst comes to worst we're stuck with a player who can be useful for the remaining year as opposed to Eriksson. We're unlikely to re-sign Benn, and he's a low commitment depth asset for Florida. We need to make a decision on Jake, moving him frees up cap and a roster spot. Moving Eriksson would obviously be huge. If Florida's looking to add, these are additions that really won't cost them much.
