trek
I'm no expert but wouldn't it be slightly easier to crane it free from the shore?

It is a very heavy ship with containers on board.. They will need to off load a ton of cargo before trying something like that.

Well let’s see...it would take a month or more to set up a crane big enough to remove the containers if a big enough crane even exists.

Ghostsof1915
400 meters long ( 1,300 ft.) 200,000 tonnes I doubt even a shipyards cranes could hoist that when loaded.

Yet a couple more tugboats will be able to dislodge it?
Gurn
Going to take days to get cranes big enough to unload those containers. Dreging equipment is probably a few days away as well. Our European posters might want to go stock up on things, shelves could get a little barren for awhile. 1

People are taking the piss however as usual you are on point. I heard oil had gone up over 5% , 1 million barrels a day go through the channel. A large volume of the world's products pass through the Suez Canal and Europe will probably be the hardest hit in terms of both import and export.
-DLC-
They're going to try to refloat it as the tide changes tomorrow. https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/plan-made-to-refloat-ship-blocking-suez-canal-with-high-tide-1.5363193 (This would never happen in Japan) 1

NewbieCanuckFan
Don't be surprised if the solution requires thinking "outside the box".
