Don't think we want to go down the LE route again

One such contract is somewhat manageable.  Two such contracts is a franchise killer in todays environment where the cap isn't likely to rise for a few years.

... need to stay as far away from each other as possible.  If we take his contract we should wave one of our big guns (Petey or Hughes, maybe Boeser in his next contract, or Miller and Horvat) goodbye.  I also feel like him getting time with Eichel or a star player would at least help, but here is not the place for such experiments.

There is zero upside to this in my opinion.

IF Skinner got back to his career year production.... he is still $3-5 million overpaid.  If he doesn’t, he is $8 million overpaid.... for a crap ton of years.  With a flat cap for likely 5 years, that is a franchise crippling contract.

Ae won’t be paying Petterson or Hughes $9 million.  You could get the best free agent on the market for the next couple seasons for that price.

Any player making that kind of dough should be able to carry his line

Yep.    Look at what Stone and Patches do for Vegas.    Skinner is a good player, former Calder winner who struggled at times with concussions during his career , but mostly a 30/30 type of guy which for sure has value.    Then lucked out with a trade playing on one of the best young c's side and cashed in.    There was always a possibility from more from him since his rookie year ... man did Buffalo bet wrong on this though.

Agree with one poster,  would take one gigantic amount of retention to move him now.   Probably the team that lost the most with a bad pre covid deal.

Yes.   Hamilton this year - or Ovi if he wanted to leave - or Zinbanejab ... and even then that's too much really.
