I have always been a proponent of a lineup laced with quality vets, so i can hope they are planning to let a few others walk, and he brings something like leadership to the table... because his production has faded once again. Everyone on the team’s production faded as exhaustion set in. The Canucks were handed the worst schedule in the league, no practice time on top of no exhibition schedule. It took 6 weeks to integrate new guy’s into the lineup as they were playing multiple 3 games in 4 nights and every 2nd night at best while having a heavier than normal travel schedule to start the season. Pearson has been a 40 to 50 point guy his whole career. The fans on this board have zero understanding of what real exhaustion is, or whatit took to complete the first 6 weeks of this year’s schedule. There’s nothing wrong with the contract or term, there’s just a problem with fans over thinking this and over dramatizing a pretty minor contract. He’s 28 years old, in his prime with lots of experience. Glad he’s still with the team. Also, we don't have another prospect player anywhere close to stepping into the same role as Tanner. Kole Lind is getting closer but he will need to be groomed and he will likely start on the 4th line. Tanner has more skill than Gaudette and he is more versatile as he can play both PP and PK. I'm hoping to see more from Gaudette though and I think he's getting close but he's not there yet. I'm happy with this 3 year signing. Wouldn't it make more sense to not sign this deal + get rid of Virtanen and use that combined cap, for example, for a legit 2W for Bo? Perhaps one that's actually good at passing which he's pretty much never had. Or use that money or a legit top-4 D which this team still lacks and has no means of replacing internally as of now. Or keep all the money to keep your options open. Lind or even Jasek at 3C? You do realize C depth and overall defensive ability at center is a weak point of ours right? The more you dig into our roster and all the different options and possibilities in the off-season, the less sense it makes to commit to this contract at this point.
