This is the #assetmanagement you guys are freaking out about? Take the 4th or 5th, sign him back in the off-season to the same deal. If he signs elsewhere, so be it. It's Tanner freaking Pearson. So instead we have an extra 4th and 5th (isn't Benning a genius drafter?) and another 3.25M to play with it. Yes, that is asset management.

Most GM's seem to understand that the only players that covid and the flat cap havent driven the value appreciably lower on are top players. Not depth signings/tweeners. Anyone who is happy with Pearson being the best our top 6 will see for the next 3 years in that spot is foolish. The idea is to actually improve, not hedge bets for 3 years.

It was a consistently prevalent story earlier in the season, Horvat had to come out and "squash" it: https://www.nhl.com/news/vancouver-canucks-struggling-with-slow-start/c-321286144 That’s hilarious. Talking heads speculate that Canucks poor start was because the players are upset because of player departures. Players respond to questioning by saying that yes we miss those players, but we will figure it out. This all adds up to Canucks are livid? I was right here on planet earth during January and February. I obviously don’t connect the dots the same way as you do. My buy in rate on media created hysteria is somewhere in the 1 or 2 out of ten range. The media is starving to be relevant, so they force feed you fables, that you should take with a grain of salt. Attributing the Canucks poor start to a hangover from playoff success, or because they are playing in a division against teams that we had a losing record against (last year), is boring and it doesn’t sell papers. So let’s stir up some sh$t, and make some money. 1 3

He got paid far more than what players are being signed during these Covid flat cap era. We have a GM that does this consistently does this. Makes the players “happy”. 5 hours ago, coryberg said: 3) this off-season is different than last. There is a whole lot of dead space and bad contacts coming off of teams books and Seattle will be absorbing at least 60 million dollars of salary. Stop acting like you have a crystal ball to support your point of view. 2 hours ago, grandmaster said: 3) What in e world does Seattle have to do with our cap space? Do you really think they will grab one of our overpaid players off our books? Lol I broke it downso you can follow the conversation. The point was that there is going to be a lot more money open on every teams cap this year. Numbers aren't going to be as tight as last year. But you don't understand that so just stick to name calling and fudging numbers to skew your arguments. Cheers! 2

Popular Post Sedinyoureyesontheprize
Lot of uninformed opinions about Tanner in this thread. He’s been a consistent player during his time here and compliments Bo really well. With the addition of VP were gonna have one of the most affordable and rock solid second lines in the league. And media once again blowing a regular comment into a scandal. Seems like a lot of people fall for the drama. 1 5

The Leafs media machine rolls on, and has been dumping on the Canucks while gagging on the Leafs for years. The same fans who bitched about Dubas handing out monster contracts and mismanaging cap are the same fans waving pom poms on the bandwagon. Dumping on Benning is one thing, but painting Toronto's management out as something we should aspire to is something else entirely. 7
