As much as people dislike Benning, I don't think that's the case. His wife said some stuff about covid precautions and choosing not to follow one of them. It was really bad. 1
Me_
Gaudette has potential but looks like he may have hit his peak or close to it. Meh player. I won’t shed a tear. 1

Here was what the team physician said: "We know the individual had gone to a place within the guidelines. That place was subsequently found to have cases of COVID... we've made it clear within our group there's no culprit here aside form the (virus) itself." If the owners are blaming Gaudette for getting the virus, I don't think they're intelligent enough to be owners of an NHL franchise. So I don't think that's the case. Read that too... I'm not sure if it true or not, but prior to that statement there were a lot of rumours flying about... Who knows? Seems like a strange trade if there is no reason for it... VC has just posted a statement from MacIntyre that it has nothing to do with Covid , so seemingly not... Edited April 12, 2021 by spook007

ey40
I just hate people bringing up Motte when talking about this trade and trying to be positive. Does anyone forget Jared McCann? I wonder how he is doing in Pittsburgh?

But that doesn't really have anything to do with trade value. And what exactly is AG's trade value? If the guy has been available for what seems like awhile, doesnt seem like other teams were exactly clamoring to acquire the guy 1 1

rekker
I gotta say one if JB's deficiencies is his inability to get a pick thrown into trades. This trade should of had a pick thrown in coming our way. A fifth would of made it a better trade. But again, time will tell. 1

I don't like it but if this turns into a Motte type surprise then you need to give JB the high five. For now though, I don't like it. But some perspective, I'm just a goofoff fan and not a scout. Curiously my brother and i discussed if we felt AG would ever make in the league not that long ago and both had serious doubts. He was given a year to prove himself (and said he was going to do everything he could to do that when he signed) and hasn't done much other then one very good shift (and didn't score) and a few brief moments that's it. Truth is our bottom six is killing us this year, we missed the goals from AG and JV this year, could have meant a big difference in the standings ....the only guys that did anything are Motte and Sutter. Don't mind at all if this is about cleaning house to make room for new players. Which i believe it is. Nothing to cry about that's for sure. 2 2

But that's not the point. If for some reason during the draft, your GM were to say, "we don't need this seventh round pick, whoever is next you can go on and pick," in all likelihood it won't matter. However, it's a sign of incompetence. Obviously this trade isn't THAT bad, but there isn't much rationale behind it and could indicate incompetence, specifically because we sold Gaudette when his value was near its lowest. Also, contrary to what some people are saying, people who are around the Blackhawks have been saying that Highmore doesn't really kill penalties and "isn't a great defensive forward." There's just very little upside with him and at this moment in time, not really a reason to believe he's better than Gaudette, who is generating chances at a high level. This is quite different from Motte, who looked to be a good NHL penalty killer when we traded for him. Edited April 12, 2021 by Grape
