[Trade] Canucks trade Adam Gaudette to Blackhawks for Matthew Highmore

Recommended Posts

CDC is acting like we traded our #1 / #2C away. I mean this is not a huge lost even if it was a mistake, a 5th rounder. AG is not working for us as a #3C and we still have lots of prospects coming up next year.

Obviously there are some internal factors that we don't know about that made this trade.

I know the general consensus that people disapprove the deal strongly, but I wonder how many people generally just looked at hockeyDB and made their mind up without digging further.

I'm not saying Highmore will blow your pants off, but learning from my own experience when I first reacted to Vanek for Motte deal I hated it and made an automatic decision to hate the deal. But once I decided to look into the actual player and see who he really was not just by looking at the stats but the research on the player, realized that Motte wasn't too bad a guy...lol.

I'm not happy we gave up Gaudette, but I turn my attention now to who is Matthew Highmore, he isn't a dumpster fire of a player either as some are making it out to be. But what I see is a guy who works hard, a player who goes to the dirty areas, not a lot of flash and finish in his game, but his determination allows him to get looks.  He skates hard, responsible defensively, and can be trusted in his own end of the ice. Again Im not saying this was a worth while trade for Gaudette, but Highmore isn't a total plug either. I can see elements of why our team was attracted to his style of play.

The gist from me is....you can hate what Benning is doing thats fine, but don't knock the player til we understandd who Highmore is and before we even get a chance to see him.  Who knows, maybe his style of play will flourish more in a system that is more conducive to his strengths.

You trying to use calm, quiet and thoughtful contemplation? Here on CDC? You won't get much appreciation from the pitch fork and torches folks here. Lol. But thanks for using some logic and reasoning.

A 4th line with speed and determination can get a team rolling. Highmore could skip in and fit fine. Keep your lynch mob at the ready, but wait and see first, mmkay?

Pearson had his best ever season last year and is just turning 29.  IN what universe is that "declining"?

Best season? By scoring every one of his goals just about on empty nets? Yes I’m so glad we have an empty net specialist on our squad for 3 more years!

He will decline every year of this 3 year deal - mark my words ... dudes Sutter 2.0

Chicago just got a 2nd rounder for Mattias Janmark, who they signed as a UFA last offseason to a 1-year deal. Then they flipped another guy they signed as a UFA (Highmore) for a once highly-touted guy (Gaudette), with upside to replace Janmark.

I am often jealous of teams with good management.

AG on your team or a 3.25 mil TP for 3 years? How can we not just keep AG with so much potential vs a declining two way forward...... come on guys

if we got a good player in return this trade would be ok but wow come on this trade is indefensible

Pearson is a good hockey player. Gaudette is not.

at this point AG is not an NHL cman, especially a bottom 6 one.  Highmore is listed as a lw/c

Highmore has taken 9 faceoffs in his life. Jake Virtanen has taken more this season alone. Lol. If Gaudette isn't a NHL centerman not sure how you label Highmore as one. Hell Virtanen has almost won more faceoffs this season than Highmore has taken in his life. Dude is 2-7 in 73 games played and Virtanen is 8-2 in 32 games this season. Highmore is a LWer. Plain and simple.

Highmore is barely an NHL player, so I can see why he would celebrate hard like that lol

After reading Bieksa's comments on Gaudette, I wonder if he was liked by his team mates. And then his wife weighing ion on social media defending him etc. VAN doesn't need the drama. They're also only saving a few bucks with this transaction, so I don't think it's about the money.

Also, it probably has a lot to do with the expansion draft, and now not having to protect him. The way Jim's going, I don't think he can catch BUF for last, if that's what he trying to do. Looks like it.

Now that you see Highlander doing cellies you just did a full-blown 180.  Nail Yakupov didn't score that many goals either.

.44 ppg over his career.... pretty acceptable production for a middle six guy.

It’s mind boggling they got a second for Janmark. I would have been happy with a fourth or fifth rounder for Adam

I wasnt aware Highmore requires draft protection?  I thought the idea was to move AG and use a protection spot for Lind.

No idea I read on this forum that he required protection. I hope not. Benning should hire jonah Hill to help him with this stuff.

Defending this trade because hopefully this kid coming back is Motte 2.0 is a sad defense of JB

Now we don’t have to protect AG!

Now someone else can fill in his spot next year!

It won’t even take AG half a year to show how bad this trade is.

Pearson playing with Horvat and people think he’s amazing now .. Do any of u actually watch Nuck games?

Tanner $&!# the bed in the bubble and was nonexistent vs Golden Knights .. then played terribly all this season so he gets a fat 3yr deal

 Smh

The guy said posters are referring to Highmore as a dumpster fire, and that’s “calm and thoughtful contemplation”?

Does anyone reading here actually think the new kid is a dumpster fire?

This isn't what I’ve deduced from the pages, besides a few outliers.

Pretty sure 99% of posters, because I’ve seen it for 23 years-running on here, have even heard of this player we just traded for, let alone follow the game enough to know which players exist elsewhere...

Its not at all a horrendous trade, but I do think that it’s not an area we needed to bolster by weakening the exact area we are currently weak in.  I don’t like the trade, but it’s not bad.

If the Canucks are going to be sellers, which this has some optics of, then JB better get busy!
