There should be a 20% discount on any player signed during covid, especially one that has taken a step back from last year. If covid never happened, Pearson would have been in line for a modest raise in the high $3's to low $4's. Take a wild guess what 20% off that comes in around.... 3 minutes ago, wallstreetamigo said: I dont think this was move 1 of 2 bud. Gaudette definitely didnt fit in the bottom 6 as a center. Could have moved Pearson at the deadline (and if you really had to have him re-sign him as a UFA) and put Gaudette in the top 6 as a winger for the rest of this already lost season to hopefully increase his trade value. Worst case scenario he $&!#s the bed and you qualify and trade him or let him go. Best case scenario you get more than a tweener for him. Gaudette has nowhere near Pearson's two way play. That's laughable. Edited April 12, 2021 by aGENT

Signed at a very cheap 725K through next season. If nothing else, it’s a step in the right direction to be adding a 4th liner to the lineup for a mere $725K, versus the $3-4 million per season JB typically pays for “role player” types. (Before any Benning cultists @ me, I’m kidding. Well sorta... ) If it works out, Highmore and JaceH could be a worthwhile 4th line. (Motte should be a third liner IMO)

ForestFalcon
While the deal is clearly not a 'win', definitely one of those ones where we'll have to wait and see. Basically, it's a question of whether or not we ended up picking up another Motte type of player. If we did, then I think the trade is beneficial for us. And if not, well it opens up a roster spot for another young forward challenging for a roster spot. And it also depends on other trades that might happen and who Seattle picks from us in the expansion draft. As for Gaudette, wish him all the best. Looks like management is gambling that he'll become another Virtanen type and doesn't want to wait on that. Might come back to bite them later, but we'll have to wait and see how this all plays out. Teams around sports who have had irresponsible decision makers have generally just declined to comment. The trade isn't THAT bad, but it seems like a "sell low" trade for a player that Benning had his eyes on a long time ago, both of which we've seen before. Lying in business is extremely common, if not a prerequisite. I’ve been in management before. There were lots of times that the companies I worked for fired an employee for a mistake they had made, only to deny that as being the reason why and regurgitated the usual platitudes as to the reason for the firing. Again, I’m not saying that’s what happened here. Just that assuming team representatives wouldn’t lie in order to keep things internal is naive. 5

J.I.A.H.N
Just a thought, but Did not Gaudette's wife say somethings on social media.......I just remember something to that effect And if you remember Greens reaction to McEwen's moms comments on Social media.................. Maybe the organization would prefer no to have those types of distractions around? Just a thought!
Popular Post Dixon Ward
I'm guessing that Gaudette was seen as not good enough for the top 6 and not strong enough or gritty enough for the bottom 6. With Podz coming and Pearson signed, it was just a chance to move on. Remember how disappointed we were with Motte? He turned out great. Perfect role player, maybe JB sees that in Highmore? 1 6

The point is not about putting him there for the long term. It was to do what many teams do and try to showcase the positives of a player you are trying to trade instead of putting him in an ill fitted position that only accentuates his wesknesses then selling low on him. This season is already lost despite Benning and his supporters refusing to admit that. Use it to set up for next year. This is why you dont let your coach be alame duck in his last season. Sign Green or fire him already. He will not want to purposely do things for next year that will be used as ammo to let him go at the end of the year if they dont work. Same with Benning. Too scared to lose his job to fo what actually needs to be done here.

Popular Post VforVasili
A few thoughts: - I never cease to be amazed that CDC acts like covid doesn’t exist and doesn’t have an unplanned for impact on things like the salary cap and player value. We are the Typhoid Mary of the NHL right now and even for other teams the value they are getting for trades is very low right now. No one is paying full value for trades. I’m amazed we were able to trade anyone at all. From a player to player value perspective Chicago obviously won that trade, but from a team needs perspective I think the right decision was made to move on from Gaudette and I am content with what we got. We got a solid, young and cheap 4th liner who can play PK and is a playoff performer. Exactly the kind of player everyone has been bitching we should have been playing on our 4th line instead of overpriced veterans. Meanwhile it opens up a spot and opportunity for other young players to take Gaudette’s minutes and run with them. It’s about the bigger picture, and that is not even factoring the potential animosity in the room that may well be there over recent events. It may not be, but the possibility certainly submarines his value to other GMs as well. I don’t think people should be staying it as fact that there is an issue, but there are some signs there may have been an issue there. The team denying it doesn’t really prove anything either way and we will probably never know. 1 3
