We are the Typhoid Mary of the NHL right now and even for other teams the value they are getting for trades is very low right now. No one is paying full value for trades. I’m amazed we were able to trade anyone at all. From a player to player value perspective Chicago obviously won that trade, but from a team needs perspective I think the right decision was made to move on from Gaudette and I am content with what we got. We got a solid, young and cheap 4th liner who can play PK and is a playoff performer. Exactly the kind of player everyone has been bitching we should have been playing on our 4th line instead of overpriced veterans. Meanwhile it opens up a spot and opportunity for other young players to take Gaudette’s minutes and run with them. It’s about the bigger picture, and that is not even factoring the potential animosity in the room that may well be there over recent events. It may not be, but the possibility certainly submarines his value to other GMs as well. I don’t think people should be staying it as fact that there is an issue, but there are some signs there may have been an issue there. The team denying it doesn’t really prove anything either way and we will probably never know. well said and at this point in the rebuild it's about finding the best fits for role players. The top 6 is, basically, set. NOw they will use other assets, like Gaud, to fill the other spots in the lineup. JB is, imo, building the rest of the team that will compete for the Cup in the next 5 years. 1 1

Still even though the trade sucks in a vacuum...it could have brought us a perfect fit for the bottom 6. Wait a few games and see...then fire up the JB firing circus cannon. He also said 'there's still a few days left so we'll see what happens, if something makes sense' I don't know why you people are having such a hard time with the full quote

I’ve been in management before. There were lots of times that the companies I worked for fired an employee for a mistake they had made, only to deny that as being the reason why and regurgitated the usual platitudes as to the reason for the firing. Again, I’m not saying that’s what happened here. Just that assuming team representatives wouldn’t lie in order to keep things internal is naive. I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think it's a parallel comparison to compare regular businesses to those whose dealings are out in the public. I would say there's a lot less leeway for straight up lying in professional sports management, where a lot of things can be publicly fact checked and backfire on you. There is a lot more incentive to lie etc... when you work for a corporation that won't doesn't have its movements monitored by hundreds of thousands of fans. I think there is a point where people go from being too innocent and oblivious with the shady actions of higher-ups, to becoming conspiracy theorists that don't believe in a word that anyone says. Not at all accusing you of the latter AT ALL, but I think that in sports, fans tend to gravitate towards believing that things are deeper than they actually are. I don't blame them because there are very prominent sports scandals out there. But that furthers my thinking that unless absolutely necessary, pro-sports teams will tell the truth or hide the truth by refraining from commenting, rather than straight up lie. In fact, a lot of the scandals I can think of right now are born out of hiding rather than lying. That's why I think there's little reason to not believe the team physician in this case. Edit: I should mention that I'm not referring to lying in regards to, for example, trades; I wouldn't completely believe the team even if they came out and said that the Gaudette trade had NOTHING to do with how his teammates perhaps soured on him. I was referring to important PR announcements such as the aforementioned quote by the team physician. Edited April 12, 2021 by Grape

When we hear Chicago media saying that the 25 year old guy we got is a good 4th line/AHL guy which is what his numbers to date show. It feels like a no lose scenario for Chicago and a no win scenario for Vancouver. So why make this deal. Tons of Highmore’s on waivers everyday. why do you say "4th liner" like it's a meaningless spot on the roster. Teams that win Cups have solid lines from top to bottom. Your 4th line may very well be the difference to winning or losing when it counts 2
DeNiro
I mean if he can’t put up points with Roussel and Sutter it must be him because those two are foundational players.

It might be as simple as they weren’t planning on bringing back Gaudette next year and this opens up a spot in the bottom 6 plus brings in a style of player at a price our team needs. I have been saying for weeks that Gaudette is all flash but no fire. He is an AHL'er at best. We will see what Highmore is. Wait and see. Remember how terrible that Miller for a first trade was too. I say it like that because he’s been scratched for half of Chicago’s games. At 25 trying to make an average teams 4th line if he hasn’t won that spot yet chances are he’s a fodder. We’ll probably be waiving him as early as next year. While Gaudette could very well be in a middle 6 role putting up 40+ points.
250Integra
My other guess is perhaps JB likes Hawryluk and Boyd as options over Gaudette moving forward. More suitable for the bottom six role than he will ever be. It doesn't mean we just give away a player though. Hopefully Highmore proves us wrong...
