I'm not mad just extremely disappointed.  No real rhyme or reason to these moves and again this just reeks of dysfunction from ownership down.  What the hell is the plan?

Kole Lind may have graduated from the AHL to the NHL. Maybe bringing up Lind last week was to move Gaudette and see what Lind can do on the big stage.

As far as I’m aware, Lind has not been sent back down.

I was hoping for a bit better of a return though...

Podz is coming next season, perhaps 1 of Vesey or Boyd will stick next with the club next season...

Gaudette also needs a new contract next season and currently carries a cap hit of 950k...

Jim has a history of losing value.  Sure Gaudette was a5th rounder, but he was found value.  It could balance out somewhat with the ones like Jake who’s value never reached what was expected.  But no chance of seeing that balanced out now. Nor  Madden and a second gone for nothing.
in another department JB losses value by inking declining vets to generous contracts to the point they even become useless as trade bait for younger replacements. Stagnant value.

Then he also loses value by the domino effect of losing actual useful good team pieces because of those overvalued contracts.

It’s not so much dealing Gaudette away.  He was a tweener and was alright and I thought somewhat snake-bitten this season, but what disturbed me more was his playoff performance or lack thereof.  He was invisible and looked small out there. So maybe he did need a change in scenery.

all that doesn’t change the fact that JB has a pattern of losing value in the team. And the options to be more creative that go along with  that position

From the get go.  Lost Hamhius for nothing. Then Vrbata.  Yeah I know “the other GMs are being mean.... the only offer was a joke so I refused”.  But was that it or was it just Jim’s inexperience dealing with other seasoned more clever GMs to find a way?

i don’t know.  I gave JB a lot rope in his first 5 years or so, but he has slowly and cumulatively eroded my faith when in almost every occasion, less value comes back for what was invested.  That’s no way to run a hockey franchise

Gaudette was never a "core" player, and never will be.

This I agree with. A better approach may have been to trade Pearson for picks, circle back to him in UFA if you really see him as indispensable, and use Gaudette in the top 6 for the rest of this already lost year to try to raise his trade value.

Hopefully this new guy works out. But I have a feeling Chicago will get more out of Gaudette.

We need players that are really good at at least one thing.

Unfortunately I couldn’t really name that one thing for Gaudette. Not a gifted skater, not physical, not a great forechecker, pker or powerplay specialist. Good shot but not enough ability to a consistently get it off. And just an okay play maker.

I’d rather take a flyer on another Motte prototype than continue to force guys who aren’t suited to be bottom 6ers into the bottom 6.

I'd add not good on face-offs. 3C was there for him to take but it wasn't going to happen, thats pretty clear.

Luckily for Highmore he doesn't hav big shoes to fill.

I'd say that this solves the "where did the covid come from" issue.

I really am puzzled why we would trade a kid who won the hobey baker, and had 33 pts in 59 games last year as a 2nd year player.

Why would you give up on a player like this?

Atleast trade a kid like this for something of value.

I would have kept Gaudette for another season personally. He isn't a significant piece but I felt he had more to give(especially after he puts on some weight).

I don't think he was well liked in thr room,  or by managment.  Sounds like he wanted to play higher in the lineup and wasn't earning it. Seems like a dump to me. Smells like Jared McCann to me .

My preference of the two (Gaud/Virt) was Gaud, but I realized when Pears was re-signed, neither player was going to be protected in the ED.  JB has always liked Lind's game, so he takes the final protections spot.

Still think Gaud should have been given another chance; I mean, most of the team has had a mediocre season.  In the end, I suspect that Seattle may pick Jake over Bowey.  A 6th round pick always gets another chance to see what he can do with a new team.

Today was a micro version of his tenure.
Benn trade: Good

Bowey trade: Ok

Gaud trade: horrible.

That basically sums him up. Does some good things then kills them with bad things.

Bunch of speculation on Gaud.  Gimme some truth.

I don't recall JMc being a cap dump, but he only had 1 year to prove himself and the off he goes.  Jared McCann has  21 pts in 29 games this season and has just been moved to Pits #1 PP.  He would look pretty good on our top 6.
