Junkyard Dog
Hoglander Podkolzin 2-3 1sts And probably Eriksson for cap reasons. This is what it would likely take. Sabres will want top prospects under 20 for rebuild 2.0. Dahlin is 20 now so probably want to build a core around him similar to Chabot in Ott. So hard no. Can go for a consensus top3 centre in this yrs draft (Beniers,Eklund,Johnson) , highly ranked top goalie (Wallstedt), the next best dman outside of Hughes/Powers, or pick the 1st winger off the board. BUF lack obvious locker room leadership. Holtby brings them that who they can flip in a later trade if they so choose to, Suttsy similar thing with his Canucks tenure but for Buffalo to rely on(good mentor for the young guys and rebuild), Eriksson retained to match the salaries, a 24y/o raw Virtanen that fits their direction, 3rd to seal it which pretty much will be a late 2nd. Canucks get the best player and another vet backup they can sign to have behind Demko. Eichel would give the Canucks strong options down the middle to run 3 powerful centre anchors (Eichel, Petey/Miller, Bo) which can revert to a 2 centre unit (Eichel/Bo) whenever needed since Miller and Petey often times play on the wing. In fact, that's what id love most about this: the maneuverability in having enough quality centre depth that can flip-flop between the wing and middle when need be. Way more valuable than getting just a top winger for example. Greatly beneficial deal for both teams. Sabres get a top5 pick++ which can be used almost immediately to replace Eichel unless they decide to choose another position(they do have Mittelstadt ready to emerge at centre). Canucks show they're unhappy with how this season went and they mean business giving up those many assets, mainly 1 of which will surely be a top5 selection in the upcoming draft. We should also lie to them and trick them to include beag and rousel to get a great deal!
