Why didn’t the Canucks consult with their players before agreeing to the schedule?  Wouldn’t Horvat be involved as the Canucks’ NHLPA representative?

From the article:

The biggest surprise about Miller’s comments is that the schedule was put together in consultation with the NHL, the NHLPA and the Canucks. Medical professionals from all three sides were involved. There should be multi-lateral agreement on the correct path.

I would imagine the players feel a lot of pressure to go out and play. Just because there was "agreement" between the major groups, that doesn't make it unanimous agreement among the players either.

Miller did the right thing speaking his mind. Giving the guys a couple more days to get into something resembling game shape doesn't mean much, worst case maybe a couple of nothing games near the end of the year don't get played.

The internal pressure should be relieved by the NHL... They are so dead set on every team playing the same amount of games and it's clouding their judgement. Canucks should just forfeit Fri/Sat games and hopefully be up to speed for Mondays game.

Why feel pressure. Rask did it. Panarin took a leave this year. Lots of nfl players have opted out. Any pressure being applied is coming from between the ears.

Play if you're comfortable. Dont if you dont feel safe. That's pretty much the message I've heard from every employer in canada and usa.

I dunno, ask JT, lol.. You can see by his comments that they're being asked to play even though they're not in game shape.

It's loud and clear so if the NHL does nothing then we know...

If his concerns are big enough he'll sit for a bit. If not then I guess it's just to get a leg up. When I also understand.

Funny how all this "pressure" to play goes away during contract holdouts and CBA strikes lol.

Ive been saying all day that those who cant go wait a couple of days the rest of team start .

Canucks medical staff agreed NHLPA medical staff agreed and NHL medical staff agreed and the Canucks Team agreed to start playing.

If Miller doesnt want to play he can wait..

All this doom and gloom all day like they're being sent the Gulag in Siberia at gunpoint.

Over reaction much or what.

Yup... Couldnt agree more with you. Medical professionals are saying drop the Puck... And we out here pretending like we're doctors and saying the world is about to end

If you aren't feeling well take some extra time off.

There 7 billion people on this earth in 10x worse situation than our boys, this doesn't even register on real world problems... This isn't even a first world problem. This is absolutely nothing given what's going on. This situations just reeks of privilege and makes me sad how real problems get no attention.

Miller is just being Kesler 2.0, although I'd say he's 1 tier better than the iconin Kesler in terms of skill but he's got similar personality in some senses

Hope the boys can get this schedule spread out a little. If not no big deal... Life goes on

This is all about a feel good expression of support for a player who openly was weighing his concerns about playing after Covid had broadsided his team. It means little. It is up to each player whether he plays or not after Covid, a concussion or other injury. Ultimately it is his responsibility no matter how many experts or well wishers offer their advice.

I won’t think less of Miller if he sits or any other player.

Last I check (unfortunatly) JB was the manager of this club not Bettnan .

if players aren’t ready don’t play them.
have the stones to back their decision.

gillis did it with manny.

JB knew this day was coming how many call up from into a last Friday to fill in....

oh boo who  the nhl is screwing us.

Effn excuses no wonder the league thinks this team is btchs.

the coach and manager can shut players down can limit their ice time.

we have a taxi squad and some that didn’t get sick play them. Play the goalie that your developing by not having them play a single game all season.

Licence to tank and improve the lottery odds.
play the kids it’s not like we were a good team this season and we’re missing out.

for once Jb FA should look at the big picture

hurting or rushing the stars/core for pointless wins us just stupid. so I expect the stars /core to be rushed back over played and then JB can whine about it and use it as yet another of his many excuses for why he’s been a total failure on every level.

To be fair, Panarin's absence was due to being accused of some crazy stuff back in Russia due to being anti Putin. But I agree with what you're saying.

I got the impression Miller was more concerned about guys getting injured, and also just the crap show it going to be in terms of being able to match up against another NHL team with everyone out of shape. Hell, they'd have a hard time against an AHL team for the first week.

Canuck players getting cardiology tests before practice this morning (according to radio interview)

After my bout with covid, 10 day coma plus 3-4 added days in ICU. I recall that my heart beat was irregular and was monitored with the goal of stabilizing my BP. My heart rate was erratic at first (fine now, took regular aspirin and lots of water, was low on iron). As well as having my lungs monitored to see my oxygen levels.  After my coma my lungs were around or below. 80 and needed oxygen assistance. Gradually went to .90 and feeling better at around .93-.98 weaned off of oxygen (which was scary) but I was ok.

O2 levels when they drop make exertion that much more difficult ie stairs are harder etc. I hope they have covid specialist measuring where each player is at. And each players capacity to play at peak performance. Guys are going to get winded easily I'd imagine.

it Sounds so horrible.I’ve had family go through what you describe.

I’m sorry you and so many others have had to endure this suffering and hope your back to 100%
sooner than later.

So Why isn’t the gm shutting them down until they are actually ready.

Why is the Gm risking their Heath and safety by allowing them to play.

Manny was cleared to return Gillis shut him down. I’m sure there are many other examples of gms looking out for not only the super stars but all manners of the team.
if JT isn’t ready then don’t play him

if hes cleared and says he’s ready but clearly isn’t  don’t play him.

this falls on the coaches and Gm to look out for their players safety the medical staff will give a medical report but the reality is the ones who got hit won’t be physically or mentally  ready but will pass medical .

just so tired of so many complaining the leagues rushing these guys. The GM and coaching staff have full control over who’s on the ice and how much ice they get.

we have nothing to play for this season except players Heath and the future.

Actually I've been fortunate to get my lungs back in order and heart rate return to normal.  Hahahaha but I lost quite a bit of muscle mass and need to hit the gym but I'm not sure of safety of my Trevor Linden membership and safety. Great weather and I'm going to start walking for my skinny legs. The skin actually got a little baggy around my arms and legs.

Our own team doctor cleared them...

NHLpa doctors cleared them...

I don't like to ignore doctors bro. In fact me not ignoring what doctors say is the least ignorant thing I could do lol

Pretty ignorant for you to dismiss what the ACTUAL DOCTORS said and go on with your own narrative because u like living in a panic maybe?

I agree the schedule sucks and I hope they stretch it out an extra week or so... But this doesn't frustrate me remotely close to what the NHL has done to our teams in the past. This is nothing lol...

Is this the first time you've felt wronged as a Canucks fan?

We've had playoff series flat out rigged from start to finish and you're upset about... We've had the career of the world's most iconic power forward ruined by league interference...

But we out hear moaning over schedule strength?

Here's what could happen

What's wrong honey? No need to panic here's what could happen

1) Canucks lose bunch of games, get high draft pick (depth players play lots as some guys need back to back games off)

2) Canucks somehow rally and make playoffs...

THAT'S IT!

THERE IS NO 3RD OPTION of

3) The world is ending, let's spread toxicity and anxiety

Don't think like that.

Be kind. Be happy. Spread love.

I don't get people saying the team has full control over who plays. Did we do away with the salary cap system and no longer have to meet the basement? Do we have an unlimited number of players on the roster and can easily get players from Utica here on command? If they have to ice a team, how many options do they actually have?

This isn't a few players, it's a significant portion of our team who are still recovering and/or who feel unsafe playing right now. Add to that such a rough, condensed schedule that will require them to play more games in fewer days than the rest of the league and even the healthy ones are almost certain to get injured. They're a depleted team being demanded to perform more with less. And for what? We're not making the playoffs and we'll still slip 5 spots in the draft lottery.

If you want to argue that bigger things are going on, I'll agree. Bigger things are going on so call the Canucks' season, figure out a fair way to distribute the missing points and move on.
