I totally agree with this. I thought Pearson should be 2.75aav as well but JB is a good guy so he threw in the extra 500k

its funny I've been in the position of kind of defending the deal in some ways, even though my preference was for Pearson to be traded

My ideal scenario was to move Pearson for a 2nd or maybe a 3rd and project prospect, and swing back around to sign him in free agency for 2 years 6 or less million total.

But I don't see why we need to use even other deal to trash Benning. Iafolo just got overpaid too. Maybe Sheary too too little?

LOL same here. I didn't want Pearson back at all.

I am not even sure why I am wasting time defending this...

I think Pearson is overpaid by 500k for his next contract... If we have to keep him.. so be it. I will say this I rather have him than Gaudette

People whining like we just lost some superstar in the making. Watch any nucks this season and he you know he can't play d or stick handle. He only has a slightly above average shot on this team. But I digress..

if there's a 14" laptop available for $700 vs the same/similar 15" laptop for $1400+ (more than 2x the price), most people would say stay away from the latter and go with the common sense decision.

Not exactly. It depends what components are included in each laptop. The 15" laptop could have far superior parts, which justifies its cost. You simply don't base your decision on price alone.

Sure...I guess the blues won a cup with a bunch skilled small dudes...or were you referring to a different 2019?

There is no definitive way to win a cup. Teams like Pittsburgh or Tampa have won with highly skilled/speedy guys, while teams like the Blues or Kings won with a heavier style of play.

The Blues won because their players (who happened to be big) were really good at hockey as well. Every team that wins a cup wins it because their players and coaches are really good, and they likely had some form of luck on the way.

If Pearson's size made him a more valuable player than Sheary, it'd translate to obvious on-ice results.

It's almost like Pearson brings more to the game of hockey than points. But hey, just google their point totals, compare them, then rage :D

not twice the salaries worth of a similar player with a better corsi and less giveaways

it's 2021 and people are still talking about how size has anything to do with actually playing hockey

Clearly you have no hockey knowledge what so ever

sheary has 5p in his last 2 games and is shooting 20% this year. hes the next Mcdavid.

11 of his 19 points came against buf, phi, njd

sheary and pearson were within 1 point of each other at game 33.

So because Sheary and Pearson were KINDA close to each other in points this season, Pearson deserves more than 2x the cap hit?

Calling Sheary a 0.5 PPG player is a bit of an overstatement. He had 3 points in his last game to bump his numbers up a bit for this season, but prior to that he was on pace for 33 (over 82 games). He's more of a 30-35 point guy (he had a good run with Crosby to up his career numbers). He doesn't PK at all. And this season he has 20 hits in 40 games so far. Plus he's 5'8.

Pearson has had more 40+ point seasons. PKs and contributes in a shutdown capacity with Horvat. 40 hits in 33 games so far this season. I'd say Pearson has more of an impact to the overall game than Sheary does. Both players are the same age.

Pearson and Sheary actually have identical career numbers (.46 points per game) and are two months apart in age. Sheary is having a better season at 11 goals 19 points vs 6 goals 11 points but Pearson is coming off of a better prior year.

Last year Pearson put up points but had some of the worst underlying numbers on the team. He was absolutely dreadful defensively - not that he is necessarily bad defensively but certainly not suited for that role. That said I have no issue with Pearson as a player per se and he is fine as a middle 6 forward.

For the same term & price id take Pearson. I initially said 2 years x 1.75 million for Pearson a few weeks before he signed which is basically in line with how I would value him vs Sheary at 2 x 1.5. I hope Pearson doesn’t take another step back otherwise he will be a buyout candidate. Very poor asset management by Benning.
