At least then players with value had ntc as opposed to now when Benning has signed a bunch of players with little value to contracts with ntc attached though.

Benning specifically chose not to even try to trade most of those players though. He even said so himself most of the time. Because he needed them in case they made the playoffs. Of course, most Benning years the team has been bottom of the league but hey he had hope his latest foundational player signing would put them over the top.

Majority of Bennings are limited and modified NTC whereas Gillis were NMC and full NTC. Our current NMC are Edler and Hamonic an both are expiring. Only NMC left after those is Ferland Everyone else is on a modified NTC non exceeding a 15 team No Trade list

I'm glad he stayed in Winnipeg (if not signing here).

Good deal.  Love the way he plays - he plays the way his father coaches....

The only thing I'd wonder is what's caused his faceoff percentage to dip below 50% this year - probably just an outlier - but regardless - good value for a bottom six center that plays hard minutes, plays them heavily, and can chip in 20+ pts/season.

One more reason (option off the market) to extend Sutter at reasonable cost...

Might get one of the one-year term type veterans like Richardson or Thompson, but with Beagle's health/future in question, looks like the team might need a pair of depth centers.   I'd probably be in talks with Sutter to see what his intentions/expectations are.

In the current landscape, with most teams not having much cap space, trading players is tough. There are not many teams around that can take on cap. Even a handful of teams on a no trade list can effectively make it impossible to trade a player. The problem with most of Bennings contracts isnt that they have trade protsction, its that they also have too long of term and too high of dollars vs what the player is worth.

Finding a team to take on those kind of contracts would be tough even if the player couldnt refuse a trade to a handful of them. With any ability to do so, good luck moving that player.

Considering Benning has been unable to move any of these contracts out, it sirt of supports the above theory.
