both tracks are on shaky ground. At the risk of sounding like an old man, when i did security at Hastings about 30 years ago, they raced 4-5 days a week  / about 130 race days per season

 

this year they have 25 days, and then they'll see what $$$ they have left

 

one of my fondest memories of my little kid days - going with my grandfather. It was soooo amazing - the horses and excitement, the different coloured tickets back then and for me, I was/am a numbers guy - watching the tote board was mesmerizing....

Oh damn, didn't know that about Cloverdale.   You're right about the importance of the casino.

 

It was our thing to do as a family when I was young, too....I also have very fond memories of being there.  Checking tickets on the ground "just in case".  The backdrop, the parade to the post sounds, the food, running down the hill in the grassy area at the Coliseum end.  I love that place and would be heartbroken if it was gone.  Fingers crossed.
