I accept that - I posted before the "essential worker" piece came out.  But as someone who has had both vaccination shots, and am paying for grocery deliveries, and am strictly following the Canadian and BC healthcare guidelines, I took offense at the supposed "thumbing the nose". I was wrong, and I apologize for anyone who has ruffled feelings as a result

No worries, I just don't like when people have their privacy invaded.  

 

Dean Lombardi, come be the GM of the Vancouver Canucks.  Besides monetary compensation you'll have lunatics flying banners with "Fire Lombardi", there will be people taking pictures of you grocery shopping and guys like @Squamfan making shrines of you in their bedroom.

What a night. The kids got in the act tonight and played really well. Rathbone gets his 1st career NHL goal. The first of very many to come. Hogz got on the board as well. Hamonic also gets his 1st as a Canuck. Graovac, Hawryluk and Boeser all scored. Demko was spectacular. Hope the boys keep it going! GCG!

I literally can not agree or disagree with you as you have not put out a single reason as to why Hoglander is a top 6 player maybe you do not think he even is and just wish to disagree with me because I have minority opinion on it. I'm not pretending to be from the future - so I don't make silly claims like "Hoglander will not be more than a 3rd liner" - or 'Lind will never amount to anything at the NHL level'.

 

My refuting your take - which is based on the fact that you don't know the future (and have a highly questionable take on the present) - does not require me to counterpoint yours, as if my position is necessarily that Hoglander will remain a top 6 or be a top line forward.   It may be worth noting though - that he already is a second line forward at the NHL level - as a 20 year old - based on the assessment of people far more 'hockey intelligent' than you or I.

 

If you want some objective outcomes to make the case that he's worthy of the position/role he's playing:

 

1) he plays on a second line - one that gets 47.4% ozone starts - that plays a lot of matchup minutes against opposition top 6 - and has a corsi of 50.4%.

2) 10 goals and 24 pts in 48 games - translates into a 17 goal, 41 pt per 82 game rookie season - in the midst of a season in which his team struggled, and went through an outbreak that cost them a month spent in recovery from illness.  That is while playing 15 minutes/night (with one of his linemates arguably underproducing / at 15 pts in 43 games.

3) he lead the team with 36 takeaways and a +23 turnover differential

4) with the exception of 1pt on the powerplay, all his production has come at 5 on 5 - again, in not particularly sheltered, or 'easy' minutes - with both below 50% ozone starts, and strong quality of competition, night in night out.

5) beyond the 'possession'/shot differential metrics above, he also has some of the best goal metrics on the team.

 

Nothing there indicates a player that you should 'expect' to downtick - in fact, almost all those indicators would suggest a player that is headed in the opposite direction than the '3rd line' - a player that has shown a solid two-way game, that had produced in harder minutes than the vast majority of young, 20 year olds play in their rookie season.  But those are just the objective outcomes - I'm not going to pretend to be from the future - I'll leave that part to you - and wadr - not take it seriously. If I were to look at the above and conclude that 'he'll never amount to more than a 3rd liner' - then I may as well jump to the same pretentious assumption about last year's first overall pick based on a rookie season small sample - who has 20 pts in 54 games, inferior 'possession' outcomes, inferior on ice goal metrics, in 'easier' minutes, on a team that has had a better season than this team has, with linemates who have outproduced Hoglander's....
