Edler's always struggled when asked to play too many minutes.  The compressed schedule likely had similar effect on him, especially at his age.  He played excellent hockey for us in the bubble, which indicates he's still able to get it done in the right situation.  I'd love to have him back if he's willing to take another discount.

Depends on the price and term.  He isn't a top pairing D anymore and asking him to play more than 20 minutes a night means he won't be very effective.  The last two seasons he visibly wears down a couple months into things.  Under $3 million on a 3rd pairing and going up the lineup when needed to cover injuries seems like a reasonable plan... I don't think the idea of him playing for $1 million isn’t too likely (dare to dream).

It doesn't hurt to have Juolevi and Rathbone split starts and share a roster spot.  They would probably get 50 games each in the season considering either Hughes or Edler on that side is likely to miss some time.

Why the f*ck do you even ask the question if you are going to disagree with whatever people suggest?

What the f*ck are you talking about? Its a poll that YOU can vote on and a way to debate on why u think he should be signed or not. There’s numerous ppl that have disagreed with me so i give my opinion as well

As much as I would love Edler to finish his career here, imo we need to set aside emotions and move on.

Either acquire someone younger to be the heavy minute muncher or groom the youngsters we already have. This team is going no where with the amount of minutes we're giving Edler and Myers.

We moved on from Ohlund to let a young Edler take over in 09, time to do the same.

We need to explore an upgrade at 1RD to pair with Hughes first.  If that is doable then the question is how much is left over to sign Eddie and how much is he willing to settle for.

Aging but still serviceable vet.  Cap constraints and the need for a 1RD mean that he is a secondary consideration.  Nice to bring him back if it works.

I love the guy, will be happy when he's in the ring of honour, but I say no, regardless of price. it's time to move along the culture change some more. my thoughts would likely be different if the team had managed to hang on to markstrom and/or tanev, but this just isn't eagle's team anymore.

let him retire or go to a contender on a bargain contract if he wants another kick at the can.

For cheap, sure. Ideally less than $3M and being honest, he's probably worth closer to $2M.

If for some reason he pushes for bigger money, we should probably let him walk/retire to be honest.

I said yes now.   If Rathbone and OJ keep playing games and doing just fine then maybe no.   And it and comes down to cap really.   Feel we'd be better off signing Hamonic and keeping Schmidt on the left side and let OJ get a spot.

I rote to let him walk, but I love Edler. He wishes to end his hockey career in Canucks.

We have Huges, Julovi and Rathbone on the left side, really don't need Edler.

Consider his age, speed and physical, we should not bring him back next season as a player.

I feel bad when he involved in that fighting last week.

I would like to suggest him as one of our coach group.

Only if 1) he agrees to one year at a time, 2) a salary commensurate with a bottom pairing D; call it 1.5-1.75M, and 3) knowing he's going to get "maintenance days", ie rested on back-to-backs, at least once on road trips 4 games long or longer, etc. Benning or no Benning, I'd also give him a "gentleman's agreement" to not trade him. He's the best, or 2nd best, Dman the Canucks have ever had. Juice flamed, then flamed out. Edler is definitely on his last legs, but give him the dignity to determine when it's time to hang 'em up.

I'll say this --- I'd rather see Edler back in Vancouver next season than Brandon Sutter.

I think if you bring back Edler, you're doing it because of his veteran presence. This team lost a lot of character last offseason by letting Tanev, Markstrom, Leivo, etc walk. And it was really felt. Though I believe letting Tanev and Marky walk was the right thing to do -- it still stung.

If you bring back Edler, its got to be at a steep discount. As others have said, you give him Hamonic money. The Canucks technically have leverage here because Edler has basically said that he only wants to play for the Canucks or he'll retire. I could see him going to Seattle because it's *close* to Vancouver but that's it.

Bringing Edler back, I'd also make sure he doesn't play above a Top 4 role. He's definitely been playing too much this past year and it's showing. Having Edler in a 4-6 role works. Have him play behind someone like Rathbone or Juolevi. Put Edler in specific situations and don't let him hang out to try. Last season Edler had 5 goals, right now Edler is trending to have maybe 1 or no goals. That's regression. But he's still a better option than trying to plug some AHL tweener in the lineup instead.

Basically what I'm saying is -- give Edler the Hamonic deal and if he refuses, walk from Edler.
