The flat cap will surely end in another year. 3-5 years sounds a bit over the top. Don’t forget each team got paid out big money from the recent TV deal contracts AND the Seattle expansion fees. I give the NHL a year and that Cap will surely rise again soon after.

Betman said cap likely stays flat for term of current CBA.  Teams with 10 million dollar players are in real difficult times trying to have balanced rosters.  (Leafs are the worst, ha ha ha).  This definitely effects Eichel’s return.

As much as people complain about our cap management at least we have money coming off the books by next offseason. We’ll be able to be much more strategic with our signings.

The teams that signed these massive contracts right before the pandemic are really gonna feel the pinch.

Given this info, these GMs and player agents need a reality check if they think they can sign FA’s to big money.

Good luck to these players and their agents wanting to cash in.

Curious what’s gonna happen with Landeskog, Hamilton, Barrie, Hall, OV, etc. This might be the first FA season ever where GMs do not overpay!

Ha ha I agree with your logic, but then again, there's a reason why you had to put "first time ever" in there...

As for Eichel, if a team feels the injury situation is manageable (and that's a big if) and the NHL players + prospects are not top calibre + they lower their asking price a bit down the line, it's not unreasonable. Not saying we should do it regardless, but someone will.

Based on the 2 players + 2 prospects/1sts, I wonder if we could swindle this to keep our young core intact:

Miller + Pearson + Woo + Lockwood +/- a pick (depending on the perceived value, 1st-4th?)

Petey - Eichel - Boeser may be the best line in the league right there.

Montreal is NOT. in the mix for this player.

Nope.

They won’t be able to match unless they part with Suzuki and a couple firsts.

Would be beyond stupid if they did. Since they’re not a contender, even with Eichel.

Get Schmidt to message his neck!

Like on Facebook or text? And why would he message his neck and not the player or his agent? So many questions.

Vegas rumoured to be in on Eichel. Vegas is desperate for a legit center. If Dubas isn't calling Vegas and gauging interest on an AM deal he should be fired. Vegas could offer a lot and offer what TO needs to turn the team around and become a more rounded team. Tavares as your top center, one of Vegas centers on return sets up TO in the middle. The remaining haul for AM from Vegas would reshape that crap team in TO.

J.B. gets a call from Vegas: "Hey Jim, do you want Shea Theodore for a 3rd round pick?"

Doesn't sound like they are in on Eichel.  They used the space from Fleury to trade for Dadonov without retention.
