Sabres need a young center they can build around not a 28 year old pending UFA.

Would be a horrible trade for the Sabres so hey maybe it will happen.

And Mika has No Move Clause.  What are the chances he waives that clause to go to Buffalo?  Especially now with how the

Sabres are treating Eichel.

I think the Wild should use Kaprisov to get Eichel.  Might need a third team though.  Kaprisov would just stay in Russia instead of going to Buffalo.  Maybe Kaprisov to the Habs?  Kotkeniemi + 2 firsts to Buffalo?  Eichel to Minnesota?

All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season. Teams cannot retain an aggregate amount of more than 15 percent of the Salary Cap Upper Limit. Players' contracts are limited to 2 retained salary transactions per contract.Jun. 28, 2021

I think the speculation is it would be a 3-way or cap clearing move to make space for Eichel (in theory). Realistically they'd probably have to move other cap as well.

Mika would fit pretty well into a Canucks' jersey ;).

Oct 23, 2016: New York Rangers center J.T. Miller (10) celebrates scoring a goal past Arizona Coyotes goalie Louis Domingue (35) during the second period at Madison Square Garden.

At this juncture, the Canucks seem to be pretty set for the season and therefore probably pretty much out of every trade and signing not named Hughes or Pettersson.

So here’s this.

Eichel has a $10MIL cap hit.

Pettersson will probably be in the $8MIL range.

Buffalo doctors are horrible.

Canucks doctors are Ace.

VAN

Eichel

BUF

Pettersson

1st in 2024 (pending on Eichel being healthy for, at the latest, the start of the 2024 season, if healthy earlier, (amount of games) the 1st becomes a 2023 1st)

Clean.

Why Vancouver does this; they get a number one center who will need recovery. His preference is cyborg. Go for it kid.

We get a McDavid / Eichel Rivalry for the next five-six years. McDavid is already so pissy. Imagine him having to face Eichel multiple times a year. That could do major sales at all levels of the game.

Eichel is the 2OA15.

Benning turns the 5OA17 into the 2OA15, advancing the plan much faster, as Eichel is a better player than Pettersson.

Buffalo messed up huge and need to rid themselves of a super mess.

They turn their 1C into a 1C. Clean.

In the long run, this makes sense for Buffalo.

Pertersson gets his wish to play for a “winning team.”

Eichel recovers and we get 6 years of a 24 year old who needs short term attention; neck surgery.

And best of all for everyone, Miller gets to center another year as Eichel recovers.

If it doesn’t fit the Cap when Hughes re-signs, another trade needs to be made.

MILLER - EICHEL - BOESER

HÖGLANDER - HORVAT - GARLAND

PEARSON - DICKINSON - PODKOLZIN

This is a huge top 9.

Petey is a much better 200 foot player than Eichel.  And Petey doesn’t have a herniated disc in his neck.

Zero chance we want anything to do with Eichel.

I would have said unless we got to get rid of Eriksson, Roussel, Beagle and Virtanen but I forgot we don’t need to anymore :)

So, no.

Also, Eichel is overpaid.

So, no.

Also, Eichel is injured and may never be the same.

So, no.

If Petey gets an offer sheet worth 4 firsts, we could consider trading picks for Eichel.

If Petey gets that offer it’s for 7 years.  We keep him.  We win 3 Cups during those seven years.

No interest in Eichel, even if healthy - which he’s not.

If Petey gets that offer it's over $10 million.  We pay that much and we risk following the Laffs model.

Just read this article: https://thehockeywriters.com/flames-news-rumors-eichel-kylington-captaincy-more/ about the Flames having interest. What struck me was the asking price being so high. I mean, is it realistic at this point that Buffalo can still be asking what they are? Does anybody here still think Sabres are getting the equivalent of four 1st rounders, as mentioned? It seems absurd.

This is from the article mentioned:

Quote

First, she mentioned that the asking price from the Sabres appears to be the equivalent of four first-round picks. She gave three examples of what a package could look like, with the first being Matthew Coronato, Jakob Pelletier, Jusso Valimaki, and a 2022 first-round pick. The second option was Coronato, Pelletier, Connor Zary, and a 2022 first-round pick. The final option she suggested was Coronato, Zary (or Pelletier), and both a 2022 first-round pick and 2023 first-round pick.
