What’s that gonna be like as a Canucks fan You know, I was actually all set to abandon the Canucks - they've been the "home team" down here, obviously - even though I've been a fan since the mid-'90's. All the Seattle NHL group had to do to ensure my addition to the fanbase was NOT name the franchise Kraken. Really, that's all they had to do. In hindsight, I'm glad they did. I'm really not the type of sports fan who jumps from team to team. Liked the same MLB squad since 1981, and have repp'd the Seahawks since 1982-83. Hell, I still rep the Sonics. Other than when they go against the Canucks, I'm sure I'll be generally apathetic towards the Kraken. 1

They better take 5 years to get to the playoffs or they'll be off to a better start than ourselves. The Canucks had a choice of washed up garbage at the 1970 expansion draft. Pat Quinn was one but he was hobbled by the time we got him.

Dumb Nuck
Well, as much as I as well as many of you laughed at Ottawa throughout the season, we now need to win 3 out of our last 4 not to finish last in the division and there is nothing funny about that, thank god we have a good coach. 1

While true, I still think the Kraken would be making a big mistake in trying to manufacture a geographical rivalry with Vancouver. Personally, the prospect of regular season games between the 2 franchises doesn't move me at all. Certainly not to the point of developing a genuine dislike for them. There's no history there. Especially playoff history. There's nothing there at all. It's barely different from when Vancouver was awarded the Grizzlies. As a Sonic fan, that didn't mean anything at all to me. I genuinely fail to see Canuck fans in Vancouver getting wound-up because there's now a team in Seattle. You can't have a "rivalry" between 2 teams with no prior history between them. I think there's a lot of "hockey fans" down here who have yet to grasp that.

Popular Post apollo
2 hours ago, Ray_Cathode said: The run we went on in the playoffs occurred while we were largely outshot, suffered from a huge deficit in zone play, struggled to recapture pucks in their own zone, struggled at capturing pucks on the forecheck, and was almost entirely bailed out by its goaltenders and the rest of the players that Benning had so mismanaged the cap that we could not afford to keep them: Markstrom, Tanev, Stetcher, and Toffoli. Last year’s playoff was an illusion that mislead almost everyone regarding their assessment of this team. Most of the old farts that Benning has so long overpaid no longer produce anything whatsoever: Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel, Edler, Baertschi, Sutter, and Ferland - they represent 28 million of wasted cap and somewhat less cash. On top of that, he lost the player he paid so much to get, and who has scored more goals than any Canuck, and all for less than the Canucks had been paying him! Tofolli cost Montreal 4.25 mil - how can one not compare his production to that of Vancouver’s six million dollar man, Eriksson, or Sutter at 4.375 mil, or even the comparative worth of the permanently concussed Ferland AHL 3.5, or Baertchi’s 3.3 or even Beagle or Roussel at 3.0 mil. The value in return for the bucks paid is absurdly poor. Sure, there are other teams with bad contracts, but with the frequency and amount that JB has racked up? Is there any still employed GM with Benning’smassive failure. And to top that off with a cherry on top of that treat, is that our prospect pool is now ranked as 19th in the NHL - after seven years deep into a rebuild that never was. That Benning, whose singular talent is finding draft eligible prospects, has been throwing away draft slots like so much confetti at a wedding is an embarrassing contradiction. Illusion Was it criss angel or David Blaine who man handled the Stanley Cup champion Blues in 6? Or was the Canucks first line: Angel Houdini Blaine? Musta got lucky to beat cup Champs in 6... And also the wild were on fire under their new coach. They were probably one of the strongest teams that got eliminated. Vegas came down to the 3rd period of game 7... But yea they out shot us lots... Our PP really let us down when Reaves took the 5 min major. Otherwise we in the west final and who knows SCF? Last playoffs was not an illusion my friend. Sorry we got the deadliest covid variant unlike anything any NHL team has experienced in the history of the sport.
