Junkyard Dog
Given the COVID cap climate and how much of a bargain he is we probably would get more than we paid for him. I doubt we will be able to afford him in FA. He’ll be in his late 30 looking to break bank on his last chance of that sort of deal. Option 1 CBJ-VAN J.T Miller VAN 2021 2nd. for TBL 2021 1st TOR 2021 1st RD Andrew Peeke(2016 34th overall) Two 1sts that will be in the 17-32 range depending on Lightning/Leafs performances. Peeke is a solid RD with size. Just turned 23. Big and physical defender. CBJ would still have their top pick and an early 2nd. Option 2 MTL-VAN JT Miller for MTL 2021 1st MTL 2021 2nd RD Cale Fleury(2017 87th overall) Fleury is a physical two-way D that’s a good skater for his size(6’1’ 210+). Turns 23 in November. These are two teams in need of Cs but IDK what CBJ’s game plan is moving forward. Both of these teams have a bunch of picks this draft and could afford to make a move like this. Cheaper than Eichel and at half his cap. Fair trades? What would you tweak? What other teams do you see as options? Would you rather keep Miller? Can we afford to re-sign Miller when he’ll be looking to break the bank when he’s an UFA? Flame away. Edited May 13, 2021 by Junkyard Dog
Popular Post KirkSave
Miller does it all for this team and at a reasonable cap hit and term. I prefer him to stay a Canuck at this point in time and for the long term. He's the type of player that helps a club go far in the playoffs. 2
Rabbit
The returns are so attractive. However, I would like to keep JT Miller who is one of the club's core. Agreed he is the main piece of Canucks for achieving playoff series.

Can we afford him on a 7.5M+ long term(6-8 years)when he’s 30 and a UFA? The way he’s playing he’s gonna get a pretty hefty contract when he hits the FA market. It’ll be his last chance at this sort of deal too.
wildcam
We have 6 top 6 forwards 1 petey 2. Horvat 3. Boeser 4. Miller 5. Hoglander 6. Podkolzin.. I don't think we have enough forward depth to trade Miller... We only had 5 top 6 forwards this season.. Unless we take back a up coming winger in trade under 25.... I am not a big fan of Miller showing his frustration in game, causes other player to feel pressure of making mistakes when playing on his line.

We likely won’t be able to afford him and he’ll be 30 by the time he’s a UFA looking for his last chance to cash in big. The way he’s playing he’s gonna get a lot. It won’t be a deal that’s worth it for us. Also JB said he feels we are two years away from competing. Any prospect/draft pick we’d get for Miller would probably need 2 years at least. I would trade Miller but really need young forward that has lots of promise and 2nd rounder... I would do it soon if your going to trade him..
BPA
I like those trade deals. But it really depends on what JB vision is. If 2 yrs out to contend, then I think he should trade Miller (as your proposal). If the goal is to make the playoffs next year, he'd probably trade this year's 1st to get help now.

I wonder if there's a team with C depth thats looking for a player like Miller thats an all-situation guy? If we could turn this into a C and picks I'd be happier. fanfor42
Miller is a great player and a big part of the current team. However the question is, if we are actually going to be competitive in 2 years, or not? If the answer is no, then we need to trade him now for picks to add to the mix in a couple years and be competitive when our young core is a few years older. If the answer is yes, you definitely keep him. That is the question. Was JB right when he said we would be ready to compete in 2 years or are we more like 3 to 4 years away?

So we would free up 5.25M. So we could try to target a 3rd C short term in FA to help shore up that position. Use one of the 1sts/2nds we get to target a solid 3rd C long term and have the guy we sign be used as a stop gap for who we draft. Also I move Petey to C full time. No more half wing/c anymore. Junkyard Dog
JB said we are 2 years away from competing and Miller’s contract is up by the end of that. Personally I don’t think it’s wise to re-sign him which is why I wanted to bring this up as discussion. He’ll be 30 and will more than likely be getting a contract with a much greater value than Eriksson. With the amount of young talent gonna need extensions within the next few seasons is it wise to keep him? Given how well he’s been playing, how much of a bargain his cap hit is and the fact that he’s signed for 2 more seasons after this one we are gonna get the most for Miller next year. If we wait another year when he’ll be an upcoming UFA we’ll get less. Some stuff to think about this off-season. KariyaSakicAnderson
I'm not opposed to moving Miller, I like him and he is a fantastic player. I don't mind either trade as this team does need D help but this team also needs more forward depth if he is moved. I think we can get a nice return from a contender. Colorado would be a team I would look at. Try to get their JT (compher), their 1st this year and some other prospect or player if possible ie: Ryan Graves? fanfor42
Fans should look at the comparison between Colorado and Van. 1. Horvat and McKinnon both drafted 2013 1st round, 1st and 9th respectively. 2. Both JB and Sakic came on as their teams GM's in 2014. 3. Similar draft story for each team if you go through 2014 to 2019. (JB might be a little better actually). The glaring difference is the pieces that Sakic has added outside of the draft, compared to the mediocre pieces JB has added over the past 7 years. JB held on to the Sedins until they were ready to retire. No return for them and kept trying to add pieces to make us competitive like, ahem, Eriksson. Very interesting to look at the comparison and realize Colorado is right now 2 points from 1st overall while we are a few points from last overall. However. In 2016/17 Colorado finished dead last overall and drafted Makar. That was 4 years ago. Are we 4 years away from the same trajectory? If so then you trade Miller. If you think we are closer to competing then you keep Miller. If JB waits to see then real chance Miller leaves on his own as a UFA for nothing if we haven't become competitive by then. I am not sure it would be wise for a team in our position to give a 30 year old(he’ll be 30 when he’s a UFA) a big money long-term deal with the amount of youth we have that will need extensions moving forward. philtbc829
Tough call here IMO, he is such a mercurial player, but if another team is willing to part with some high drafts and a good young D....certainly would entertain it...

Its a tough one for me, I love what Miller brings but he's also likely worth a lot to us in the right deal.
