The NHL should've done more about this when it happened with Kane in 2015 to avoid it since it was clearly planned. It's annoying to see even as a Lightning fan but it's technically within the rules

So was the Luongo contract...  ;)

It's been a joke since the league let the Hawks fake Hossa's "allergies".  The quack who signed off on that one should be stripped of his license to practice medicine.  Sadly, I've lost all faith in the NHL itself to conduct itself appropriately, let alone hold individual franchises accountable.

His skin was literally peeling off it is well documented and not fake at all. Treatment stopped working, it's about time you stop whining about this one.

my problem with Hossa is that he has no intention of ever returning to play, and that is the epitome of retirement

Because he has a legitimate condition insurance is paying his contract out. Whereas if he retired he would not receive any compensation.

It is against the spirit of the cap but Tampa did nothing wrong under the CBA and they will not get dinged for it as there is no way to retroactively punish them unlike back diving contracts.

They should just enforce the cap during the playoffs for the players on the ice.

How does the NHL not keep an eye on this. Not to sound like a complainer, but this team that was in obvious cap issues in the off-season last year. Then Kucherov, needs season ending hip surgery, which allows them to be cap compliant and still get good young players signed.

Then, miraculously, playoffs start, and he’s ready to go when the cap doesn’t matter.

Maybe all this terrible Canuck hockey has made me negative but to me this is cap circumvention no? I just remember thinking there would be offer sheets and stuff for Cernak, etc, and then when Kuch was out I was thinking, ah convenient, now it’s just too suspicious.

anyways, just my thoughts. enjoy the playoffs gents and ladies!

Should really turn this into a poll, do fans feel that Tampa should face a penalty for cap circumvention. The idea that Kucherov was ready, EXACTLY as the playoffs start is a little too convenient. I think a poll would be fun, something like:

1. Should Tampa be subject to penalties for cap circumvention

Simple yes / no

2. What should their penalty be

- Just a fine

- forfeit of their 2021 first round pick

- forfeit of their 2021 first round pick and a 5 million dollar cap penalty (reduce their cap space) for 1 season

- forfeit of their 2021 first round pick and a 5 million dollar cap penalty for 1 season and a 2.5 million for a second season.

If the league is ever going to really reign this stuff in, they have to get serious about it, same as they need to get serious about headshots.

Ironic to me that people are rooting for Florida because they are mad about cap circumvention. They are the team that fuccced us over directly by inducing Luongo not to go on LTIR as was his preference. They wanted the flexibility of not going into LTIR and were prepared to swallow the $1 mill cap recapture.

How did they convince Luongo? By offering him a job. How the HELL was that ever allowed??!!! If anything will get me mad it's that the league simultaneously tortured us with cap recapture (which is the worst rule in all sports) and allowed them this blatant circumvention.

I will root against Florida forever. Luongo is dead to me forever. And the league is shameful.
