24K PureCool Posted May 18, 2021 Share Posted May 18, 2021 It is against the spirit of the cap but Tampa did nothing wrong under the CBA and they will not get dinged for it as there is no way to retroactively punish them unlike back diving contracts. What should their penalty be - Just a fine - forfeit of their 2021 first round pick - forfeit of their 2021 first round pick and a 5 million dollar cap penalty (reduce their cap space) for 1 season - forfeit of their 2021 first round pick and a 5 million dollar cap penalty for 1 season and a 2.5 million for a second season. If the league is ever going to really reign this stuff in, they have to get serious about it, same as they need to get serious about headshots. They are the team that fuccced us over directly by inducing Luongo not to go on LTIR as was his preference. They wanted the flexibility of not going into LTIR and were prepared to swallow the $1 mill cap recapture. How did they convince Luongo? By offering him a job. How the HELL was that ever allowed??!!! If anything will get me mad it's that the league simultaneously tortured us with cap recapture (which is the worst rule in all sports) and allowed them this blatant circumvention.
