If he signs long term here and forges a great partnership with Hughes, it will lead to the Canucks being a stronger team overall, especially defensively, and impact their playoff chances significantly. No one knows what Pettersson and Hughes will sign for. No one knows which present Canucks players may be traded before the next season begins. No one knows which present Canucks players who are going to be UFAs will be re-signed, and which will go to FA. No one knows who Benning may sign as free agent, if he does sign any at all. You're basing your idea on too many variables that you have little to no idea about. Only Benning and those in his inner circle have any possible clue. Well I've looked at our cap situation, including the viable options for buyout and it doesn't seem likely. And in my opinion seems extremely foolish. What you're saying is make the trade if he signs long term - so is that just a hope and wish? There's no doubt he would make the team better but so would MacKinnon or Barkov and we're not getting either of them either. I'm not trying to be confrontational, but this just seems like pie-in-the-sky thinking.

I'd like to get Zadorov from CHI, big mean Russian kid before the draft and protect him. That means we expose Schmidt, e.g., but thats maybe OK because if Seattle takes him it opens up the cap space to go after anther RHD like Hamilton. Or if not, we bring in that size and toughness on the cheap. Might be better to sign a player like Jamie Oleksiak in free agency if the idea is just to bring size and aggression. I like how Parayko brings speed, skill, and smarts along with the size. I think Schmidt is a solid defenseman who the team shouldn't give up on yet, as he can provide more offense still. If there was ever a year where teams swing for the fences (Canucks included) it’s this year. Thankfully Jim has an appetite for risky picks based on significant amount of future projection going back to his first draft with Canucks. Which player in this draft is underrated and would excite fans like these two guys. 4 hours ago, NUCKER67 said: There isn't one. In my opinion it is William Eklund, he is very underrated from what ive seen due to size concerns but is putting up Nicklas Backstrom like stats is the SHL in his draft year. I didn't know he was a UFA... left side tho.... but if we're not brining back Edler thats an interesting choice. Its a hard one Mr. Blunt, do you take some risks and try to make big changes or just stick mostly with what you have. I'm in a mood to see some shakeups and risks taken but its also not my career 1

Improve the team is obviously the main goal. Shoring up the top defensive pair is probably of the utmost importance. Is the idea to keep Hamonic and keep him with Hughes for another year? Should the team take a risk and go after a more prominent top tier right hand defenseman? Will Pettersson and Hughes be alright with not signing massive deals that handicap the team, and allow management to bring in better overall support players? If so, will Benning be a little more frugal with his signings to precipitate that? I think there will be some shakeup, and might involve a move or two that might shock a few fans, which will make this place even more of an online asylum than it already is. 1

We got Myers to sign a deal without expansion protection. So thats there too, its a tool in the box. According to all the slide-rule kids around here, Seattle loves fancy stats and won't take him. So if thats really true, lets use that. Lets go get a RHD from a team looking to rebuild, or a team thats going to lose a player to expansion anyway, and expose Myers. If he's not taken, thats fine too. If he is, then great, yay cap space. Its curious, no one really seems to know what Jim means by an "aggressive" offseason other than buying out Jake. Slide rule kids....awesome. No one really knows what Seattle is going to do at all. There's a lot of speculation and that's it. They could very well take Myers to immediately add size to their blueline. Or they may go the FA route. Benning was smart to ensure that Myers contract allowed for the expansion draft. I've been wondering what the aggressive is as well. Hopefully it means meaningful moves that make this team better overall. When is the draft happening this year anyway? I know free agency is on the 28th of July, but not sure how the draft date was impacted.
awalk
Best player available. Don't try to fix an immediate need, just pick the best guy you can at #9. Draft day is the one day I trust Benning and Co.
