And it helps the other guys in the organization too - Shaw's been around and clearly has the talent.

If there are things Green or Baumer pick up coming or going it helps.

I like the Brad Shaw hire.

I remember him as a player on those Whalers teams of the late 80s.

He's quietly quite a commanding presence imo.

Interesting side note:

Those Whaler teams were absolutely stacked with players who were future NHL coaching talent.

Kevin Dineen

Dean Evason

Brad Shaw

Dave Tippett

Randy Cunneyworth

Randy Ladouceur

Ulf Samuelson

Joel Quenneville

Every one of these NHL coaches played for the 89/90 Hartford Whalers.

As did the following

Jody Hull OHL

Scott Young US College

Jim Culhane US College

Kay Whitmore OHL

Peter Sidorkiewicz OHL

Al Tuer OHL

Jim MKenzie USHL

Mike Liut US College

Not to mention Ron Francis who went on to become an NHL GM....

Very impressive list.

Wow, I like what I hear from Brad Shaw. Sounds like a great move

Great interview and good perspective(s) - hopefully they keep it together when the team struggles.  Hoping for continued growth from Aquaman to the players.

There are currently 4 head coaching vacancies right now.

- Seattle

- Columbus

- Rangers

- Arizona

I'd be curious what happens to Gallant. Because the only team that has interviewed him is New York.

Foreverblueshirts.com said the interview went well. But New York has 3-4 other candidates to interview.

But that was back on May 15th.

Doesn't look like anyone is tripping over themselves to hire Gallant.

Will Seattle go with Gallant? He got Vegas off the ground.

You know what's funny? The typical negative nancies on this board - we all know who they are - have nothing to say about this.

Makes you wonder...

Perhaps Baumer is just chiming in; kidding aside, Shaws' signing seems like a good add to a staff needing some influx of experience or just a different perspective.  Also, I commend Green and JB for clearly defining the roles and responsibilities of each.

Time for the roster tweaking to begin - fingers crossed !

They've had months to hire him if they wanted him. But they haven't.

I'd laugh if he got hired by Arizona then went undefeated against games against Vegas.

Lol ... So, I guess it's Columbus then?

Glad we figured that out. ;)

To be fair, Gallant was busy with helping Canada win gold at the IIHF tournament. I think that says something about his ability to coach. Having Mangiapane certainly didn't hurt either.

Super glad Clarke is coming back.

Shaw is a great coach and a huge asset he should help our defensive struggles.

We should snag Mangiapane as payback for Tanev & Markstrom. They'd be in shambles, he's about the only guy they talk about positively in Calgary.
