Green and Benning clearly recognized our weakness in defensive coaching and have addressed it with the fantastic hire of Shaw. I think Baum is very well liked and the fact that they kept around means the Canucks believe he is useful in other areas. I do believe he was previously in over his head but perhaps this new role will help him learn and grow as a coach. Fans make the mistake in thinking the best coaching team is full of strictly veteran coaches. The problem with that is it can cause a power struggle in the hierarchy. Too many cooks in the kitchen spoils the broth. Baum is loyal to Green, who is a relatively novice coach to begin with. Green still needs his Yes Man in the locker room and if we've addressed the defensive concerns with the Shaw signing, fans shouldn't have much to complain about. 1 2 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I guess I just viewed it as a fait accompli, based on the chatter these past weeks. But obviously, I’m thrilled to have Clarky returning on a long term extension. Mostly because of how good he is at his job, and wanting the team to continue to have arguable the best goaltending coaching staff in the NHL, but also because I don’t have to go on a rampage now, posting about how much management and ownership screwed up (that post was definitely “in the chamber” and ready to fire, had things gone differently ). 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
