I think he plays another year or two. Either way yes Nashville will have to deal with the recapture penalty.  The penalty is roughly $24m. It’ll be split up to equal Weber’s AAV of $7.8m per season. So they’d have a penalty for 3 full seasons + the remainder in the 4th

Chara and Lidstrom both were playing 20 minutes a night when they were 40.  Giordano is still playing top minutes at 37.  Weber is 35.  I can see him playing out that whole contract and retiring at 40.  Barring injury, he should be able to play in the top 4 for the remainder of his contract.

His actual pay is$6m next season then drops $3m the season after.  The final 3 years his pay is $1m. I doubt he’ll play out those last 3 years.

It would be nice for another team to get that recapture penalty like what the Canucks has to endure

Florida, LA, NJ  have all had recapture oenalties too.  They aren’t as big as Luongo’s because they didn’t benefit as much as Vancouver did from Luongo’s.  The funny thing is Nashville is innocent. They didn’t structure Weber’s contract like it is. Philly did with the offer sheet. Regardless they did get a huge cap benefit and it may come back to haunt them far more than Luongo’s haunts Vancouver

Yeap I know but as you said they are miniscule compared to Luongo's so it would be nice for another team to face what Vancouver did seeing as other teams were able to get away from facing a huge cap recapture it for whatever reason.

Vancouver had opportunities to avoid the Luongo recapture penalty and they decided they weren’t worth it for whatever reason.  What I’d love to see is Philly get nailed with the penalty for structuring the offer sheet like they did.  Obviously that would never happen because they weren’t the team that ultimately benefited. But they screwed Nashville hard with that offer sheet

Why would he retire?  Hes still a stud dman that plays 20+ hard mins a night.

His reasoning being, I've finally won it all... what more do I have to achieve? Get out while the getting's good. Retire before getting injured seriously.

I doubt he retires at 37 simply because his salary is $1 million.  If he's playing 20 minutes a night then why retire?  Corey Perry only makes $750,000 and he's still playing.  At one point he was making more than Weber.  Same with Joe Thornton.  These guys aren't playing for the money, they are playing for the love of the game and to win a Cup.  Weber is in the same mold.  If he can win a couple of Cups with Montreal then his career will be complete.  He's already made all his money.

He’ll be 38 going into his first season that he’s slated to earn $1m. I could see him hanging up the skates at that point just like Luongo  did as soon as his salary dropped to $1m

Luongo was a totally different situation.  He was 40 when he retired and never fully recovered from his hip surgery which affected his play, especially in his last year.  His SV% and GAA in his last year (2018-2019) were the worst of his entire career.  He wasn't going to play another 3 years with a bad hip and deteriorating play on a non playoff team.  Weber is fully healthy for the most part just like Perry and Thornton, wants to win a Cup and is playing on a team that at least has a chance to win a Cup before he officially hangs them up.

Luongo retired because he didn’t want to go through the rigours of getting into and staying in game shape. Injuries were a part of that but his surgery was a few seasons before he retired. He pulled the pin when his salary dropped to $1m

Weber struggled for long stretches this season and wasn’t close to being Montreal’s best defender.  Add another 2 years and he most likely won’t be willing to keep playing for $1m. It’s possible. But I think it’s far more likely he retires after the 22/23 season

The NHL wants another Game 7, don't they?

Either that or the Mob threatened Sutherland after he didn't live up to his end of the bribe and he told the league he'd start talking.  No league with any integrity looks at his body of work and thinks that's acceptable.

Nashvillle didn't even benefit.  His salary was 14M the 4 years he was in Nashville under that contract and they weren't a cap team then and had the cap space to fit a 14M AAV.

As of a year or so ago Weber thought he would - he was telling Arpon Basu that Chara can do it.  Weber has always assured in Nashville that he will play his full contract.  If Montreal can remain competitive it doesn't feel like he would retire.  Bergevin has always insisted that as long as he was GM they would not trade him - his value goes beyond just his on ice play.

He could be forced to retire due to injury though - that could be a Luongo situation for Nashville if he decides to retire rather than go on LTIR.

What he says when he’s 34 compared to how he feels at 38 can be 2 very different things

I have a feeling that the Knights are going to demolish the Habs in 4 straight. Habs came out on top against the weakest division imo.

Rooting for the Canadiens, but I don't think they have a chance.

I was very wrong on this, and I'm okay with that.

I started the series thinking the same, and really wanting the Habs to lose.  Now I see myself actually cheering for them.

Why is Vegas so easy to dislike?

because they never worked for it, or suffered for it.
